dieters’ dreams
Texas A&M researchers have
been testing drugs that reduce
appetite and aid in losing weight.
Paul Wellman, head of the
A&M psychology department,
said certain drugs injected into
distinct regions of the brain sup
press appetite.
"Identifying brain regions and
drugs involved in the control of
appetite will eventually lead to
more successful drug therapy for
obesity,” he said.
Wellman and a graduate student
found increases in the dose levels
of common appetite drugs reduced
food consumption in animals.
MSC OPAS and St. Joseph’s
Regional Health Center are sponsor
ing a community cost drive to benefit
two Bryan-College Station charities.
Brazos Valley residents should
bring old coats to any Kirk’s
Cleaners, Hallmark Cleaners or
Aggie Cleaners location.
OPAS, St. Joseph’s and Brazos
Valley youths will present the
coats to the charities, Phoebe’s
Home, a battered women’s shel
ter, and Scotty’s House, a child
advocacy center.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Prison
officials will ask the state ethics com
mission whether they can once again
allow employees to raise money from
inmates and their families for training
or charities, The Huntsville Item
reported in a copyright story.
Employee activities were halted
last month by Wayne Scott, executive
director of the Texas Department of
Criminal Justice.
Officials said there’s no guarantee
that the money doesn’t end up in the
employees’ pockets rather than going
toward a particular charity or cause.
