Page 2 • The Battalion • Thursday, June 6, 1996 Seniors Continued from Page 1 Erin Mozola, a senior applied math ma jor and member of the Academic Affairs Committee of the Student Senate, advised students to take action as soon as possible. “The first step is to contact your profes sor and explain that you are a graduating senior,” Mozola said. The next step, Mozola suggested, is the department head. Students can also use the drop-add procedure at the beginning of the semester (or term) when a few seats may become available. “If you are a graduating senior,” Mozola assured, “then this University will do everything it can to get you into a class and graduated.” Day care Continued from Page 1 financial growth increases, they will in stall security camera’s and security soft ware will be implemented.” Another area the Newsomes found lacking is appropriate curriculum. “The curriculum should be appropri ate for the children’s developmental stages,” Giancarlo said. “There will be a resource center so the parents can be informed. There will be quarterly par enting seminars, daily reports and monthly newsletters.” Stark said teachers will be employed to develop the proper curriculum. “A child learns half the vocabulary he or she will use for the rest of their lives by the time they are three,” Stark said. “For this reason, carefully selected degreed teachers and students in the field of early childhood development will be at the core of the academic team.” Teachers at the center will have the op portunity to go through a scholarship pro gram offered through Child Care Manage ment Systems, an agency in the Depart ment of Human Services. Darla York, a day care worker at Heaven Sent and a freshman early child hood development major, said she is only able to attend Blinn College because of the program. “The program pays for teachers to go to Blinn College and get their Day Care Worker’s Certificate,” York said. “There will be more training for the workers at Heaven Sent than a lot of other day care centers. A lot of people, like college stu dents, when hired don’t know what to ex pect because they aren’t trained. The workers here will be trained. York started working in day care be cause of her daughter. She said she will trust her daughter being at Heaven Sent. “I needed to find a job where I could be with my daughter and work at the same time,” York said. “Bright Begin nings was perfect and Heaven Sent will be too. I think it’s going to be wonderful for her because they’re putting the chil dren first. Being parents, the Newsomes know what the children want and what the children need.” Democrats to gather in Dallas State convention kicks off Friday AUSTIN (AP) — Texas De mocrats Eire gathering in Dallas for a state convention designed to showcase their party as home to mainstream values, invigorate the political faithful and reach out to younger voters.
