Nancy Schneider, administrative assistant for A&M Methodist Church, which owns four church buildings and a plot of land in the Northgate district, said Northgate revitalization is necessary to preserve the district’s history. “I think we all want Northgate to be exemplary in the community, and right now it really isn’t,” she said. “It was the first part of the City of College Station to devel op, and it really is our historical center.” Current revitalization plans for Northgate, which the city defines as the area enclosed by South College Avenue, University Drive, Wellborn Road and the Col lege Station city limit boundary, include resolving long-term parking problems, the addition of high-qual ity, multi-family residences, a park, a hotel and a pedestrian promenade on Patricia Street. Work to improve the sidewalks along University Drive and improve the University Bookstore and Campus Photo buildings is scheduled to begin this summer. Rape Continued from Page 1 Lora Bertelsen, the coordinator of women’s programs in the A&M De partment of Student Life, said she wanted to bring Koestner to A&M because she is a college-age woman, and students would be able to relate to her more than a 30- or 40-year-old woman was speaking about date rape. Bertelsen said Koestner has been visiting with students on campus talking about her experiences. “Katie is a good networker,” Ber telsen said. “She can speak to any body. She shows a lot of emotion and shares it in such a personal way. It is very moving.” Before Koestner began her pro gram, she addressed residence hall directors and advisers about the ac tions they should take if one of their residents was raped. Barret Curnutte, Dunn Hall resi dence adviser and a junior biomed ical science major, said the meeting was very intense and informative. He said the meeting prompted him to ask some of his residents to at tend Koestner’s program at the MSC because he wanted them know about date rape. Although A&M is a large univer sity, Koestner said, rape is “a very small whisper” here. The sexual misconduct policy at A&M is three lines long and is the shortest policy in the book. Koestner’s presentation was spon sored by 11 campus departments and organizations, including Bridge Builders, Aggies Working for A Rape-Free Environment, Residence Life and Housing, the Resident Hall Association, MSC Great Issues, Stu dent Government, Texas A&M Ath letics, Off Campus Aggies, the De partment of Women’s Studies, WEST and the Corps of Cadets. Convincing documentation. And last, but most compelling...AN EMPTY TOMB. More than Easter bunnies and colored eggs, Easter is the celebration of two historical events, the death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. We believe Christ died for our sins and rose again. He conquered death and offers us forgiveness, peace with God, and eternal life. But if the resurrection of Jesus is a hallucination, a hoax, or a myth, faith in Jesus Christ would be worthless and, as Paul the Apostle, a follower of Christ, wrote, “Christians of all people, would be most pitied.” We have come to the conclusion that the resurrection of Jesus has been documented historically, and provides strong reasons for each of us to consider the truth of his claims for our lives. If you would like to know more, we invite you to with any one of us further about this. FACULTY FRIENDS We are inspired by Jesus Christ who said: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” We are a group of professors, instructors, lecturers, and administrators united by their common experience that Jesus Christ provides intellectually and spiritually satisfying answers to life’s most important questions, are available to students, faculty, and staff who might like to discuss such questions with us.
