He said that Silver Taps used to be observed more uniformly across campus, with students making careful efforts to darken any lights on campus. “Ten years ago students were taping cardboard to Coke machines," Nelson said. “Through time, some of that has faded away. It’s not as much a lack of respect as it is a lack of information. “People aren’t as aware of Sil ver Taps, so we want to put up memos and signs to inform them. Even if they can’t attend Silver Taps, they should turn their lights off.” FLIPs proposal targets build ings that are most visible during Silver Taps. These buildings include the A.P. Beutel Health Center, the YMCA Building, the Academic Building, Harrington Tower, the Biological Sciences Building and Rudder Tower. Tiffany Merriele, FLIP mem ber and a freshman biomedical science major, said she has seen too many lights on in these build ings during Silver Taps, especial ly in Harrington. “I went out one night and just about every building had lights on,” Merriele said. Suzanne Lyons, RHA presi dent and senior geophysics major, said she supports the proposal. She said that she too has no ticed many lights on in Harring ton during Silver Taps. FLIP members do not know who is in charge of turning out lights in administrative build ings, but they are planning to present their concerns to the ad ministration in the hope that University officials will influence the appropriate people. Juan Torez, an A&M custo dian, said the custodians are not in charge of turning out the lights and that staff members | come into the buildings at all hours of the night. The next Silver Taps will be held March 5. EP, FIGURE WE'LL TOST KEEP A-ROCK/N 1 HERE ON THE PORCH... ALL THAT MONEY HASN’T CHANGEP US A BIT/...
