If the Senate and the GSC choose to support this document, the message is being sent that ‘everything’s OK.’ And that is far from the truth.” Continued from Page 1 Student Financial Aid, said the programs have been tremen dously successful because of the Association’s generosity. “It’s certainly great for the Association to contribute direct ly to benefiting students,” Bor- mann said. “We are certainly very grateful for all that the Association has done.” During the 1994 academic year, 2,200 students took advan tage of the loan program, borrow ing in excess of $1.3 million. The Association also award ed 300 students scholarships, valued at $275,000. Bormann said the figures should be similar for this acad emic year. The Association also has pro vided funding for the Scholar ship Resource Center, which is used by more than 4,000 stu dents each year. Steven Roy, a history graduate student, said he has accumulated about $12,000 in student loans, but was unaware that the Associ ation helped to fund scholarships and student loans. Roy said that although he thinks the services are benefi cial to students, the loan pro gram would not be one of his priorities. “I’m all right in the short term, so I would not needs loan,” Roy said. “I’d be more in terested in scholarships.” For information on Universi ty loans and scholarships, dents may contact the Finan cial Aid office, located in the Pavillion. The Ba iVednest ebruary 7, Aggie Bucks Continued from Page 1 bowling center is looking into im plementing Aggie Bucks. Several University bowling courses are held at Wolf Pen each semester. “We have anywhere from 300 to 400 students a week come here for bowling classes,” Wood said, “and that’s not any small number. “The convenience of Aggie Bucks would definitely be a plus, not just as a way for students to pay the fee for their classes, but also to provide them with easy ac cess to some off-campus enter tainment as well.” Dennis Rother, owner and president of Rother’s Bookstores, said convenience is the main ad vantage of off-campus Aggie Bucks access. “I mean, it is so much easier for students to come in fora scantron, swipe their I.D. cards, and be on their way, rather than to have to stop and write a check for 15 cents,” Ftother said. In addition to expanding Ag gie Bucks off-campus, When hafer said, plans are in the works to install laundry facili ties in residence halls and copy machines in Sterling C. Evans library that would accept A Bucks. AplWHAT'S UP Wednesday Society of Women Engineers: Motivational speaker Rex Saoit from Hewlett Packard will be speaking at 7:00 p.m. in 342 Zachry. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream was that one day blacks and whites would not merely tolerate each other, but live together in mutual love and respect. He admitted the challenges of this dream, “It is pretty difficult to like some people. Like is senti mental and it is pretty difficult to like someone bombing your home; it is pretty difficult to like some body threatening your children; it is difficult to like congressmen who spend all of their time trying to defeat civil rights. But Jesus says love them, and love is greater than like.” What motivated him were these words from Jesus: “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? But love your enemies, and do good and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and selfish.” As he said, “...We must be concerned about...the sacred ness of all human life. Every man is somebody because he is a child of God.” Why is tolerance not enough? You can tolerate people without loving them. But loving them is what will defeat racism. With a commitment to love even his enemies, Dr. King led an historic civil rights movement without any violence or vengeance. This year in honor of Dr. King's birthday and Black History Month we’re offering the article “Give the Dream New Life." For your free copy call 1-800-236-9238.
