IRVING (AP) — Jerry Jones nervously wrung his hands and had the hard look of a man who just lost big bucks drilling a dry hole in the oil fields. “We’re in a big jam now,” said the Dallas owner, desperate to win a Super Bowl without Jimmy Johnson in the organization. “Now we have to win three games in a row to get what we want, the home field advantage throughout the playoffs. This is very important to us to regroup as an en tire organization.” Jones got outslickered again on Sunday by one of his own, Norv Turner, who worked his spell on the Dallas Cowboys. With a brilliant game plan centered around Heath Shuler and Terry Allen, Washington used Turner’s knowledge of his former employers to stun the Cowboys 24-17 on Sunday and sweep the two- game series for the first time since 1987. Allen scored two touchdowns and Shuler passed for another as the Redskins (4-9) snapped a four- game losing streak. The Cowboys’ loss to their for mer offensive coordinator prevented Dallas (10-3) from clinching a playoff spot. “Norv knows something,” said Dallas offensive tackle Mark Tuinei. “He knows how to play us. He taught Michael Irvin how to run routes, showed Emmitt Smith where to run, and taught Troy (Aikman) how to throw. They play us differently than anybody.” Turner said the Redskins desperately needed a win “against anybody.” “If there were 53 guys in this state who thought we would win, they were all in our locker room and I’m not sure about all of them,” Turner said, “This win reinforced our program.” The Redskins beat Dallas 27-23 in the fifth game of the season when Allen scored twice and gained 123 yards. “We get up to play Dallas,” Allen said. “I guess it’s because they always overlook us.” In the third quarter, Shuler drove the Redskins 83 yards for a touchdown that put his team-ahead 14-10. Shuler hit tight end Jamie Asher with a 20- yard pass on the drive, Allen ran 13 yards and Shuler found Henry Ellard with a 10-yard TD pass. The Redskins made it 21- 10 after Stanley Richard in tercepted a pass by Aikman and returned it 24 yards to the Dallas 27. Shuler hit Asher with a 12-yard pass to the 1 and Allen scored on the next play. “I’ve had my critics but there’s no doubt in my mind what I can do,” Shuler said. Dallas got to the Redskins 12 with 5:37 to play but Richard caused Smith to fumble. Smith picked up the ball at the goal but officials ruled he was out-of-bounds and the Redskins were giv en a touchback. PITTSBURGH (AP) — Appar ently, the Pittsburgh Steelers have no problem saying goodbye to old friends. Neil O’Donnell threw two touchdown passes on an other wise off day and the Steelers wrapped up their third AFC Central title in coach Bill Cowher’s four seasons by beat ing the Oilers 21-7 on Sunday. The Steelers (9-4) ended their farewell tour against relocating division opponents, following up a 20-17 decision in Cleveland with their 20th victory in 27 games against Houston in Three Rivers Stadium. The Oilers (5-8) are set to move to Tennessee next season without first stop ping by the playoffs. - “Only if we pick up the paper in the morning and it says we’re 8-5 rather than 5-8,” Oilers cornerback Cris Dishman said, “It’s the same old cliches for the last eight years I’ve been here: Next year.” But this year looks like last year in the AFC Central. Despite being 3-4 in late October, the Steelers have won an NFL season- high six in a row to clinch the divi sion faster than in any season since the 1970s. Still, mindful of the premature celebration by some before they lost the AFC championship game to San Diego in January, the Steel ers displayed no signs of being the first NFL division champion crowned this season. There were no victory cigars or celebratory hugs in their locker room, only talk of next week’s trip to Oakland, yet another opponent acquainted with relocation. “We’re not ready to celebrate,” defensive back Camel] Lake said, “We’ve been here before, and guys are expecting better. If this was our first division championship, maybe it would be different.” Pittsburgh Steelers 21 Houston Oilers 7 The Student Solution Everything you need to be more productive all for the great low price of $2,999!
