DALLAS (AP) — Pat Sullivan tiptoed Sunday around his deci sion to hold his star running back out of Texas Christian’s game against Tulane, but empha sized Andre Davis had not been suspended. TCU issued a press release shortly before the start of Satur day’s game, saying Davis was be ing sidelined pending investiga tion of a question regarding Davis’ “alleged relationship with an agent.” A day after TCU’s 16-11 victo ry, Sullivan emphasized that, “I have not suspended him (Davis) from our football team and have not declared him ineligible. It’s just a decision we made, and let me drop it at that, OK.” Sullivan and Davis agreed the senior would not play until the university completes its internal investigation, which will be led by athletic director Frank Windegger, the head coach said. Asked if the matter would be resolved before Saturday’s con test against Baylor, Sullivan said: “I would hope so.” Sullivan’s only other comment Sunday came when asked whether the investigation could affect the outcome of earlier games this season. TCU is 5-1 for the season, including a 2-0 record in Southwest Conference play. The Atlanta Braves, behind Tom Glavine and the bullpen, shut down the Cleveland Indians on six hits, winning 4-3 Sunday night for a 2-0 lead in the World Series. Javier Lopez took care of the rest for Atlanta. He broke a sixth inning tie with a two-run homer off Dennis Martinez, then made a key pickoff throw in the eighth. A day after the Indians were held to a season-worst two sin gles by Greg Maddux, the best lineup in the majors didn’t do much better against the top staff in the game. Only Eddie Murray’s early two- run homer did anything to dis prove baseball’s oldest adage — good pitching stops good hitting, especially in October. The Braves’ second one-run win gave them the kind of edge they never enjoyed in losing the World Series in 1991 and 1992, and they still have the option of using Mad dux twice more. Now, the scene shifts for the first World Series game in Cleve land in 41 years. John Smoltz will take his turn at stuffing the Indi ans while Charles Nagy will pitch Game 3 Tuesday night. Glavine limited the Indians, who led the majors in batting, scoring and home runs, to three hits in six innings. Like Maddux, he used his off-speed stuff to I* Cleveland off-balance, andwoti up with his third win in five Sent decisions. Glavine appeared break only one bat — Albe Belle’s on a soft single-aso posed to the five Maddux broke Game 1. Relievers Greg McMichaeU jandro Pena and Mark Wohlers c ished, with Wohlers going 11-3li nings for a save. Carlos Baerga made the last c of the game for the second straip: night, popping out to third wi Omar Vizquel on second after a si gle and a stolen base. Lopez homered with one out: the sixth. David Justice led off inning with a single andmadeit third with one out and, witht infield playing in, Lopez hitaf) foot drive to center for a 4-2 lea Cleveland closed to 4-3 in seventh with the help of a in base error by defensive replai ment Mike Devereaux in leftfii on a slicing liner by Vizquel, I misplay with two outs drove Kenny Lofton, who singled at stole his fourth base of the series With the Braves clinging their one-run lead, Man Ramirez singled with one out the eighth. But he strayed took off first and was picked off snap throw by Lopez from bet the plate. Jim Thome wa the next pitch, then Wohlersrs placed Pena and retired pinch-:: ter Paul Sorrento on a fly ball. Martinez allowed four hits in 2-3 innings. At 40, he was est pitcher to start a Series gac since Grover Cleveland Alexant in 1928. Oilers’ comeback falls short in Chicago Chicago Bears 35 Houston Oilers 32 □ Houston fell behind 25-0 before mounting a second-half rally. CHICAGO (AP) — Erik Kramer and the Chicago Bears, all shook up by a 98-yard interception return just before halftime, held on in the second half Sunday and beat the Houston Oilers 35-32 for their third straight win. The Bears (5-2) built a 25-0 lead but nearly squandered it after Houston’s Darryll Lewis scored on the 98-yard return with 8 seconds to go in the half. Lewis’ one-handed intercep tion and sprint down the side lines brought the Oilers to with in 28-15. Houston used the spark to score another touchdown and field goal in the third quarter to close within 3. Kramer, who completed 24 of 41 passes for 349 yards, then moved the Bears 73 yards for a crucial score, hitting Jeff Graham with a 18-yard touchdown pass with 10:18 left. The drive featured a fourth- down sneak by Kramer and 17- yard pass to Curtis Conway. The Oilers (2-5), who’velosl three straight by a total of 1# points, responded once more. Chris Chandler’s 6- touchdown pass to Haywood Jei fires with 2:23 to go, capping! 83-yard, 11-play drive, cut Hie lead back to 3. But the Bears then recovered an onside kick and ran out the clock. After John Thierry made third fumble recovery of the firs! half with 51 seconds to Bears appeared ready to put tlf win away. Chicago, leading 25-8, had a sec ond down at the Oilers 3 Kramer’s sideline pass for was cut off by I^ewis and the plaj was a two-touchdown swing. In the third quarter, Chandler hit passes of 34 yards to Seabron and 42 yards to Travis Hannah, setting up Frank Wycheck’s 1-yard scoring run make it 28-22. Chandler 24 of 38 for 296 yards. After a fumble by Bears i Rashaan Salaam, the Oilers 39-yard field goal from A1 Del Gre co and were behind by three one quarter remaining.
