The Texas Regional Institute for Environmental Studies at Sam Houston State University announces the East Texas Geographic Information Systems Forum The East Texas GIS forum will bring together scientists, civil servants, law enforcement officials, members of industry and other professionals in the many related disciplines of GIS. The forum will con sist of a keynote address "GIS a Technology of Today "by Don Hemenway, editor of GIS World. Presentations will follow a three-track format focusing on environmental issues and GIS, GIS and criminal justice and GIS for local government. He is listed in Who’s Who in the World 1995. He has authored 95 journal articles and over 50 monographs, invited reviews, and book chapters. Wehner 159, 7:30-9:00 p.m. Dr. Henry Schaefer (Ph.D in chemical physics from Stanford) is the Graham Perdue Professor of Chemistry and the Director of the Center for Computational Chemistry at the University of Georgia. As noted in the December 23, 1991 issue of US.News & World Report. Dr. Schaefer has been nominated five times for the Nobel Prize. During the period 1984-91 he was the third most cited chemist in the world. Dr. Schaefer will also be speaking Friday at 11:30 a.m. in MSC 201 on “The Way of Discovery” which will include perspectives on his most important discovery.
