While Berger was willing to campaign fur
ther, she and several other candidates said
they should not have had to run again because
of their majority wins in the primaries.
Berger and Kelly both had at least 20 per
cent more votes than the runner-up in the
first election.
Kelly said candidates who win by a cer
tain percentage should not have to take part
in a runoff.
Yet, Colby Cessnum, who ran against Kel
ly in the primaries, likes the runoff set-up.
“The set-up is unique,” Cessnum said. “It
helps decide who the best person for the job
is because it doesn’t divide the vote.”
Jodi Morris, a freshman general studies
major, agreed with Cessnum.
“I think the runoff makes it more fair for
all the candidates because it is the final re
sult that counts,” Morris said.
