CLEVELAND (AP) — Mark Price, a four-time All-Star point ■guard and the NBA’s career leader in free throw accuracy, was traded to the Washington Bullets on Wednesday in ex change for a first-round draft pick in 1996. The Bullets, which had the worst record in the Eastern Conference last season, had been seeking a high-profile, veteran point guard to run its talented but young frontcourt, which includes rookie Rasheed Wallace, second-year player Juwan Howard and third- year pro Chris Webber. “With the addition of Mark Price, we feel as though we have accom plished that goal and have not had to part with any of our corps of young talent,” Bullets general manager John Nash said in a statement. One of the NBA’s best perime ter shooters, Price is coming off a season in which he was ham pered by injuries. He broke a bone in his right wrist Jan. 14; a supportive screw was inserted during a surgery Jan. 25 at the Cleveland Clinic. “The word to describe Jerry Stackhouse is ‘ferocious,’” Philadelphia coach and general manager John Lucas said. “He’s a competitor and a poten tial superstar.” The 21-year-old guard joins NBA veterans Vernon Maxwell and Richard Dumas in a new lineup that Lucas hopest the 76ers the speed sion they need to improvd year’s 24-58 record, fourllil in the league. The di rector (of the games) said he had never seen a team so fast since 1989.” In addition to his internation al coaching experience, Wagner has also coached some of the top national swimmers, including Olympic gold medalist Janet Evans. This experience combined with his 17 years of coaching at the national, collegiate and club levels gave the selection commit tee the confidence that he was the right person for the job. “It was a combination of things,” Hickey said. “A lot of good people applied, but he will bring high visibility to the pro gram. He has proven himself both nationally and internation ally.” The Lady Aggies are excited about this new opportunity and have set high goals for them selves. Their primary goal is to create a permanent space for themselves in the top five pro grams in the nation within the next three to four years. “It’s still early (in the re cruiting season), but I have been in contact with some of the best kids in the country that are interested in coming here,” Wagner said. “I think my greatest strength is that I can help improve things. When my father attended A&M from 1963-1967, he said the most exciting part of the game was kissing his date after every first down, rather than after every time the Aggies scored. After all, the probability of the Aggies getting a first down was better than the Aggies scor ing. Can you imagine attending games like these? Much of the media this week has focused on all the mistakes the Aggies made and how they should have defeated Colorado.
