Friday and Saturday nights at midnight, the Grove will slip into a time warp as MSC Cepheid Variable presents The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Shane Heckethorn, a sophomore English major and member of Cepheid Variable, said showing the cult-classic film is a Cepheid tradition. “We’ve been doing it consecutively for the last three years and off and on since the late ’70s,” Heckethorn said. Christy Cooper, a sophomore chemical engi neering major and programming officer for Cepheid, said the film’s cult status cannot be at tributed to it’s quality. “It’s so bad that you just have to watch it,” Cooper said. “Anyone with any sarcastic nature at all just has to poke fun at it.” The committee does its best to bring the movie to life for the audience. Cooper said. “We dress up as charac ters in the movie and pro vide a live review of the show,” Cooper said. “We also have a group of Transylvanians that walk around through the show.” Cooper said the members from the Cepheid Variable will act out select scenes of the movie but will have a full cast for a full perfor mance in the spring. The film’s promoters say The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the first and only audience-par ticipation movie. The audience is encouraged to dance the Warp, shoot water guns and throw toilet and toast at the screen and each other. Fun containing such items will be sold at the show Cooper said Cepheid Variable asks participe not to bring rice or meat to the show if theyt: their own fun packs. “Rice kills birds, so we provide birdseet throw instead,” Cooper said, “and meat is just to clean up at 3:00 in the morning.” Cooper encourages those who have nevers Rocky Horror to give it a try, even though they have to go through the traditional "virgin sacrifc “We mark the virgins when they come in, we get them good,” Cooper said. Despite the rites of passage. Cooper said show offers an unusual chance to participate it cult legend for everyone. “It’s a good, fun way to embarrass yourse: Cooper said. “You can go and be completely era; break out of your normal habits and not have come back to haunt you.” Cooper said audience merabe should feel free to dress as their favorite Trans vanian, because won’t be alone. “Tons of peopl from the communi ty come every yeai and dress up, 1 Cooper said. Viewers should also be warned, Cooper said. “Prepare to get wet, ” he said. ‘It will not be a dry Rocky. “WeTl be using lie water guns withlhe backpack water attacV ments for every water gun scene,” he said.
