Robinson made two free throws with six-tenths of a sec ond left in regulation to send the game into overtime at 93-93. He then scored 9 of the Spurs’ 11 points in the extra period, capped by his layup with 1.7 sec onds to go. Robinson scored the winning basket after going around Will Perdue to steal Jud Buechler’s inbounds pass. Buechler was playing for Pippen. Chicago’s Toni Kukoc missed a running 3-pointer at the buzzer. Robinson shook off 2-of-lO first-half shooting to score 30 points. Vinny Del Negro added 20 points and Dennis Rodman grabbed 23 rebounds for the Spurs. Kukoc scored 28 points, but Chicago’s most impressive ath letic feat was Pippen’s two- handed, overhead, cross-court toss of a chair after referee Joe Crawford ejected him with 2:56 left in the first half. Crawford said Pippen tried on consecutive San Antonio posses sions to get a 3-second violation called against the Spurs. The second time, Crawford said, “He screamed, ‘Three sec onds!’ I knew he was doing it for my benefit, so I whacked him with a ‘T.’ He went nuts, so I threw him out of the game.” Even more irate after being ejected, Pippen ran to the Bulls' bench area, grabbed a chair and threw it clear across the court. Though the chair didn’t come close to hitting anybody, Pippen probably will be fined and sus pended by the NBA. Pippen had 7 points and the game was tied at 34 at the time of the ejection, the second in less than a month for the All- Star forward. Pippen also has made news by calling general manager Jer ry Krause a liar and demanding to be traded. The Campus Directory includes listings of students, faculty, staff and other information about Texas A&M. local team and players that you couldn’t get rooting for other teams. Most importantly, your home team is there to represent you and your town on the national sports scene. Doesn’t it make more sense to support your team and not someone else’s? Look at it this way, the Cowboys are Dal las’ team, not America’s. To many fans, these points might make a lot of sense as long as the home team is winning. But sticking with the same squad during the lean times is tough. Thus, jumping onto a winning team's bandwagon is common in the sports world. Basically, it all comes down to preference. There’s no writ ten law on rooting for sports teams and as many fans have shown, the home team does not always get top billing. For it’s one, two, three strikes you’re out if you’re the home team. Track Continued from Page 7 “ One reason I came to A&M was because of their strength in the hurdles, "sophomore hurdler Anjanette Kirkland, who fin ished third at last year’s NCAA Championships said. However, A&M will have to rely on more than tradition to get past SWC favorites Texas and Baylor. “ Texas and Bay lor have had a lot of strong recruits come into their program over the past couple of years, “ said sophomore hurdler Larry Wade, who placed third in the 110-meter hurdles at last year’s South west Conference championships. “ The fact that they (Baylor and UT) have larger teams than we do makes it tough to defeat them in confer ence competition.” To combat these larger teams, the Aggies have had to rely on walk-ons and players from other sports to come and in pick up the slack. The key to finishing higher is the extra depth provided us by walk-on runners and football players due to the scholarship limitations that we face, “ said Nelson, who is allotted only 12 men’s scholarships and 16 wom en’s scholarships per year. "The key is the extra depth pro vided by walk-on runners and football players" — led Nelson head track coach Still, with hard work and ded ication, the Aggies are confident of achieving their goals. “ It’s a long season but if we continue on the pace we are go ing, this team can win the confer ence championships, “ said Wade. r ED IMI © Register NOW !
