A Place Your Ad In The Battalion Call 845-2696 Page 6 • The Battalion Monday* November 21, 1994 Lady Aggies fall to UH Staff and Wire Reports The Texas A&M women’s vol leyball team fell to the national ly-ranked Lady Cougars of the the University of Houston Sun day afternoon in the final of the Southwest Conference Champi onship tour nament at Autry Court in Houston, 15-10, 15-9, 15-8. “I don’t think that we were re ally flat. They were just ready for us, A&M head coach Laurie Cor- belli said. “We worked our tails off to get to this point. We tried to establish our middles and free up our outside hitters, but Houston shut us down.” Despite the loss, the Lady Ag gies placed three members on the all-tournament team with senior outside hitter Jennifer Bronner, freshman outside hit ter Kristie Smedsrud and junior setter Suzy Wente. Lady Cougar outside hitter Lilly De- noon-Chester was named Tour nament Most Valuable Player, contributing 16 kills and 17 digs in the final match against A&M. The Lady Aggies defeated Rice and Texas on their way to Sunday’s finale. Friday night, A&M eliminated the host Lady Owls in three straight games, 15-10, 15-13, 15-0. Bronner led the way with 19 kills, Smedsrud enjoyed a match-high .471 hit ting percentage and Wente con tributed an outstanding game with 43 assists and 14 digs. Saturday evening, the Lady Aggies avenged two heart breaking regular season losses at the hands of Texas by knock ing off the Lady Longhorns, 9- 15, 15-13, 15-13, 15-9, to ad vance to the finals. Bronner continued to dominate, record ing 21 kills and adding a .395 hitting percentage. Wente threw in 10 digs and 63 assists as the Lady Aggies held UT to a .175 hitting percentage. The Lady Aggies finished the season with a 18-12 record. Bronner McGuire Continued from Page 5 done is done. But with A&M ranked eighth in the polls. I’m afraid a lot of unanswered questions will go unanswered. A season that could have end ed with a Southwest Confer ence championship and a Cot ton Bowl victory, will end with a big “what if.” But in a way, the ‘94-’95 season didn’t end on a negative note. Surely, SWC stars like Thomas and Armstrong will go on to successful careers in the pros. And the the senior class did make their mark in the record books. And, most im portantly, they are winners de spite probation. And from all the fans who watched the se- i nior class provide four years of incredible football, we say “Thanks.” GO FAR IN THE AIR FORCE.
