In the first game against Iowa State, the Lady Aggies defeated the Lady Cyclones in three straight games, 15-7, 15-2,15-2. The win was largely due to a stifling defense that held Iowa State to .098, -.077 and .115 hitting percentages in the three games. Dana Santleben led all players with 11 kills and also recorded a .400 hitting percentage. Junior setter Suzy Wente recorded 28 assists and senior Page White added seven digs. A&M was led by senior forward Joe Wilbert, who appeared in mid-season form, hitting 10 of 15 shots while racking up 26 points and ten rebounds. Senior guard Tony McGinnis aided the Aggies cause with 22 points, six rebounds and four steals in just 30 minutes of play. Although sophomore guard Jimmy Smith started at the point position, freshman Kyle Kessel continued to impress, racking up seven points and seven assists in 23 minutes of play. Guard Roderick Hall led Fort Hood with 20 points, although it took him 25 shots to do so. No other Tanker scored more than nine points.
