I thought they would ask for more per tinent information first like my telephone number or social security number. But, I was wrong. One of the first questions the officer asked me was my ethnicity. I don’t think I’m wrong when I say the color of my skin should have no bearing on this incident. I can’t help to wonder that had I been white, maybe the University Police would have tried harder to find my bike. The color of my bike should have been the only concern for the officer. Deon Brewer Class of ‘94 Islamic Awareness Week provides gratification I wish to convey my thanks and apprecia tion to The Battalion for publishing articles on the “Islamic Awareness Week” that was held on campus last week. It is indeed our goal to let the people know the truth about Islam. The message of Islam is universal and for all times. It makes no distinction based on color, race, wealth or status. The only differentiation is based on faith and piety. Islam did not commence with prophet Muhammed, rather Adam, who was the first messenger of Islam. All prophets preached the same basic message of peace and sub mission to God. Jesus, as referred in Qur’an as “the son of Mary” is one of the great prophets of God, but held no divine attribut es. No creation of God shares any divinity with God. Islam has been finalized with the advent of Muhammed and with the revela tion of Qur’an, the last and final words of God. Muhammed has been sent as the mes senger for the entire humanity, unlike other messengers who were sent before to a partic ular group of people. All prophets are brothers to each other and Muhammedus regarded as the leader of all of them and a slave servant of God. Many prophets, including prophet Jesus, were given divine revelations in the form of books in the language they were revealed. However, Qur’an is the final message of God, dictated to Muhammed and preserved in its entirety in the original text. It is a complete guidance to humanity and supersedes any other previous divine revelations. The salvation in Islam is through faith in one God, the final revelation Qur’an, and the final messenger Muhammed, and by follow ing up the faith with continuous righteous actions. Zillur Rahim, Ph.D. Former student Women more beautiful here, male student says I recently returned from a trip to Kansas State University this past weekend. Being a male, my gender dictates that I am constantly on the look out for “good-looking” women. But, I wasn’t aware, until I arrived in College Station, how beautiful A&M women are. Upon my return to campus, aside from the ob vious differences (warm weather, colors of the trees, etc) one thing that stood out was the amount of “good looking” women relative to those on the KSU campus. I believe that it is time to extend a “thank- you” to the women of Texas A&M for being so beautiful. I hope I don’t offend those people from Kansas too badly, (although they might agree with me) but I strongly believe that we would be doing Kansas a huge favor if we were to ex port some of our women to our northern states (considering there is something in Kansas that Texans want) so that they might see how beautiful women are capable of being. I’m not trying to be “sweet” nor am I trying to find a date, but I think that it is time to rec ognize something, that I feel, gets taken for granted. Thank you again for taking care of your selves (day in and day out) and for adding to the beauty of the A&M campus. Keep up the good looks! Mike Swirczynski Class of’96 Disney CGI manager admires talent of Aggies I’m writing this letter in response to the article written by Katherine Arnold titled “Former Students Criticize Lab.” The article expressed the opinion that the Walt Disney Company will no longer be re cruiting computer animators from Texas A&M. As the Manager of the CGI depart ment for Walt Disney Feature Animation, I’d like to set the record straight. The Walt Disney Company hires computer animators and computer scientists (often call technical directors) based on each individual’s talent regardless of where they went to school. In the last year we have hired 5 people from Texas A&M, and I look forward to seeing more talented students emerge from the Texas A&M program. Although I am not familiar with the cur rent structure of the program, I am natural ly very interested in it because of the talent ed Texas A&M graduates that we h hired. I spoke with Donald House last week I look forward to further discussions al the Texas A&M program. Edward Kumm Manager % Walt Disney Picture Student shows concern over Aggie Bucks system 1C r F: After reading the article on Nov. 7, “ bucks system faces examination," I began i worry. I believe termination of Aggie Buck; would be a great loss. However, if they are allowed to continue then I believe we should expand on-campus use before we expand off-campus use. I pet sonally find it very annoying that I have It buy a copy card or carry money in order If make copies. I think using my Aggie Bucks to m copies would be much more convenient, fact, I would like to use to Aggie Bucks to pa; recreational sports fees. Quack Shack tickets for OPAS or other school sponsore: events, or even parking tickets. Why an these areas being neglected? As for off-..campus expansion, I say noway Yes, it would be great to buy groceries or gas with Aggie Bucks, but what if someone steak your card. Now there would be more people with monl places to steal your money. This would be likf losing a wallet full of money. Granted your picture and signature is on front, but very fe» clerk look at my Citibank card now, which ha: my signature and picture on it. One last note concerns the problem witt the revenue from the interest the school re , ceives for the “Aggie Bucks accounts.” Where; should it go? Obviously, the money should go to our fal ; tering library. We’ve proved we can beat tu j on the field. Now lets prove we can do it of the field as well.
