Marshall Award. Haraway, a senior political science major, re- | ceived the award earlier this month. K e news. Texas A&M University honors students will be recognized at a variety of activities during Hon ors Week, which began Monday. The event, which is sponsored by the Office of Honors Programs and Academic Scholarships, will include ceremonies to honor scholarship re cipients and interactive games. Honorees include students who are graduat ing with University or foundation honors, teacher scholars, those involved in the Under graduate Research Fellows Program and students who will participate in next year’s Undergradu ate Research Fellows Program. Kibler takes over as vice president for student affairs Dr. J. Malon Southerland, vice president for student affairs, named Dr. William Kibler assis tant vice president for student affairs last week. Kibler has served as interim assistant vice president since September and has performed all duties and services in an outstanding matter, said Southerland. A&M education dean to head national association Dr. Jane Stallings, dean of Texas A&M Univer sity’s College of Education, has begun her tenure as president of the American Educational Re search Association. Stallings, who is the first and only woman dean at Texas A&M, was selected for the presi dency last April and has served as president-elect for the past year. The association seeks to improve the educa tional process by encouraging research related to education. A&M Recreation and Parks names alumni award winner Bryan Community Services Director John Blackburn is the 1994 recipient of the Leshe M. Ried Alumni Award presented by the Texas A&M Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sci ences. The award honors an individual who has “outstanding professional achievements, integri ty, recognition among peers and genuine con cern and support for the Department of Recre ation, Park and Tourism Sciences.” Dr. Blackburn is the immediate past-president of the Texas Recreation and Park Society, a board member of the Southwest Park and Recreation Training Institute and former representative to the Southwest Regional Council of the National Recreation and Park Association. Mobley creates special assistant position to link A&M System schools Hector Gutierrez Jr., formerly assistant vice president for government relations for South western Bell Telephone Co. in Austin, has been named special assistant to the chancellor of the Texas A&M University System by Chancellor William Mobley. In this newly created position, Gutierrez will provide leadership in linking programs and ac tivities among institutions within the Texas A&M System, with particular attention to the develop ment of the system's three South Texas institu tions, Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
