Texas National Bank of Bren ham senior vice president Bill Nutt and a LaRoche Chevrolet ex ecutive who requested anonymity confirmed receiving the letters of inquiry to the Fort Worth Star- Telegram. The letters were from inves tigative counsel Michael Glazier and regarded Branded Jackson, the team’s leading rusher in 1993 with 899 yards. They confirm reports that the SWC’s investigation into the Bay lor’s men’s basketball program has spilled into the football pro gram. The letters from Glazier to the Brenham bank and car agency in cluded authorization from Jack- son to release details of the car loan. They haven’t, however, be cause the paper’s are in the name of his mother, Jessie Wade. Mary Macmamis/TA/? Battalion Petru Continued from Page 7 high school where I drove the ball every time. I hate doing bad, so I keep doing my best to get over the hump.’ This hard working attitude is something that Petru developed during his high school days when he and Harris would work out during Harris’ Christmas and summer breaks. Harris ad mits the two play with the same hard-nosed style and which has helped the current relationship the two players have as the Ag gies’ double play combination. “We’re shortstop-second base, and usually they have to be pretty close and get the feel for each other,” Harris said. “He’s a scrapper and that’s why I like him. He likes to play hard and et dirty. I see a little of me in im.” Petru also speaks fondly of the brotherly relationship with the older Harris. “He’s someone to look up to, ” Petru said. “He’s worked so hard to accomplish what he has accomplished. He’s kind of like an older brother.” Harris admits pushing Petru to play his ball in College Station while Petru, three years the younger, was still at Westbury. Petru, who grew up a Longhorn fan, decidedto play his baseball in College Station after “he fell in love" with A&M on a visit. “It helped to see Harris play here,” Petru said. “Being from the same high school and neigh borhood, we used to joke around about playing second and short together.” Petru has learned the de mands of the game at the new level. He talks about fishing and hunting to rid the stresses from the competitiveness that baseball brings. He also says the compet itiveness and the spirit of the game is something he thrives on. He is sure if it wasn’t base ball it would be something else. Whatever it is Petru said he would give it his all, “I don’t want anyone to say I didn’t play hard,” he said.
