Let's start with that pitiful

What in the name of the Phi

this once-prominent haven for
athletic competition?
Gone are the glory days of
20-win seasons and NCAA
tournament bids in basketball.
95-21 victories on the gridiron

best shortstops in colle
giate softball, Texas
A&M softball senior
All-American Jennifer McFalls
says she plans to lead the Lady
Aggies to another successful sea
son.
"It's a great honor to be con
sidered among the top," McFalls
adds, "and I'm excited about it."
McFalls has led the No. 14
Lady Aggies to an 8-6 record
this season.
She has broken the A&M all-
time career record for runs
scored with 128 and in triples
with 19.
She is also close to breaking
several more records for dou
bles, total bases, RBI's, walks
and stolen bases.
The Lady Aggies won the In
ter-Collegiate Classic in her
hometown of Grand Prairie last
weekend, and McFalls collected
the Most Valuable Award.
McFalls says she was happy
to win the award and was excit
ed to do it in front of her home
town crowd.
"It was really exciting for me.
It was a great honor," she says.
"I was more excited about win

She says she was not to wor

way she can.
"We have 10 new players,"
she added. "It's almost a re-

Fresh or salt:
A&M has club
to catch fancy
By Michael Glass
Special to The Battalion
You can bet that if there are
two or more people with same in
terest in a hobby, sport or recre
ation, hen there has been an orga
nization formed especially for it
at Texas A&M.
So it is with the sport of fish
ing. In fact, there are two A&M
groups open to anyone with an
interest in fresh water or salt wa
ter fishing.
If bass fishing is your cup of
tea , the newly formed Aggie An
glers is the club for you. The club
formed in Fall '93 and now has
about 90 members, ranging from
the avid fisherman to the occa
sional relaxation seeker.
This group holds bass fishing
tournaments on nearby lakes
every two week.
Club president Jeff Shaeffer
says the Aggie Anglers have
scheduled seven inner-club tour
naments for this semester.
A public tournament is also
scheduled for April 9 at Lake
Bryan in the hopes that it will in
crease local interest in the club.
The next Aggie Anglers tour
nament is Saturday at Houston
Country Lake, located about 85
mile east of College Station. Oth
er tournaments include: Lake
Somerville on March 5 and 6,
Lake Conroe on March 26, Lake
