Several student leaders expressed outrage about the incident.
Ben Dale, Student Senate academic affairs chairman, said guilty;
ties should be punished.
"If this is true, I think guilty parties should be held accountablt
their actions," Dale said. "If the situations were reversed andStui
Government did something like this, our funding would be cut off,
would be removed from our positions and be punished."
Student Body President Brian Walker said he didn't agree witk
actions of the individuals involved.
"Aggies don't lie, cheat or steal," Walker said. "If somefc;
changed vouchers to reflect the purchase of something thatwasi*
purchased, no, I cannot endorse that."
Chris Thompson, RHA president, said University officials sht
adhere to the rules.
"Since the reputation of our school is at stake in situations li
think the regents should try to follow the same rules studentsi
Thompson said. "If they used state funds to pay for alcohol,,Hu
parents would not be happy knowing their taxes were going ton:
buying booze for regents."
Courtney Joyner, Fish Camp director, said this sends out a mess
of the University following "double standards."
"As students, we are told not to cheat in class and to alwaysfd
the rules," Joyner said. "If this is true, whoever is responsible forck
ing the vouchers obviously doesn't know how to follow the rules
did nothing more than cheat the University. I think they need toevi
ate the message they're sending."
Gang Violence
Continued from Page 1
Several members of the community have responded totherii
crime rate by establishing the Citizens Crime Commission, a locak
nization that looks for solutions to crime.
Members of the commission meet periodically to help busines
schools and law-enforcement agencies look for solutions to pre
gang violence.
McCarver, a member of the commission, describes the soluti
searching as a positive group activity .
"The idea of a police substation at the mall was kicked aroun
while, but no definite decision was made," McCarver said. "I cant
if we will implement one in the future."
In an effort to keep trouble at a minimum, security officers k
morning and afternoon shifts with four or five officers walking
malls. The officers, who are hired from a security company, alsow
an evening shift that lasts until 11 p.m. Police officers then
side the mall and around the parking lot until 7 a.m.
The College Station Police Department and the Sheriff's
also are available when assistance is necessary, McCarver said
