Barone said he also felt the play of Smith, a freshman point guard, and McGinnis were instru mental in the Aggies win. Smith saw valuable minutes at point guard after Edwards got into foul trouble while McGinnis' defense shined. "I thought the story of the game was Jimmy Smith and Tony McGinnis," Barone said. "Jimmy didn't guarantee a win tonight but he was one of those guys who went in the game with a tremen dous focus. I'm continually amazed at McGinnis, he made some hellacious defensive plays." UNLV was led by Reggie Manuel with 17 and Brian Hoce- var with 16. Dedan Thomas handed out nine assists. "Texas A&M did a tremen dous job," UNLV head coach Rol- lie Massimino said. "They are a well-coached, well-disciplined ball club. They showed what per severance can do." Kentucky's Pitino to reunite with Dallas' Mashburn The Associated Press LEXINGTON, Ky. - Rick Piti no hopes to offer some friendly ad vice to former Kentucky All-Amer ican Jamal Mashburn this week. "We'll sit down and have a long talk," said Pitino, who will be in Dallas on Thursday to see Mash burn and watch the Mavericks play Seattle. "I want to sit down face-to-face and find out what's go ing on in his life right now." But the Kentucky coach plans to stay out of Mashburn's squabbles with the Mavericks. "I'm going to visit him as a friend and make sure he's OK away from basketball," Pitino said Tuesday. "I'm not going to ques tion anything else other than that." Mashburn, the fourth pick over all in the NBA draft last summer, has been a disgruntled player as the Mavericks have lost 15 of their first 16 games. He has criticized the team's triangle offense and coach Quinn Buckner. Sports Rmmdup Cowboys' Newton jailed on DWI charge CARROLLTON, Texas - Dallas Cowboys offensive line man Nate Newton was released from jail early Wednesday on a DWI charge after his vehicle col lided with another car on Inter state 35. One woman was injured in the wreck late Tuesday night on 1-35, Carrollton police said. They said Newton, 31, was uninjured but his 1993 Mercedes 600SL and the second vehicle were dam aged extensively. One witness told investigators that Newton's car was traveling at an estimated 100 mph. "We have not been able to substantiate that speed," said po- lice Sgt. Robbie Robertson. "That's according to a motorist who observed the vehicle." The Cowboys said the player practiced Wednesday and will play Sunday. Doctors said Wednesday that the lymphoma in the bone of Azinger's right shoulder blade is 90 pecent curable and that they expect a full recovery. The over all cure rate for lymphoma is about 50 percent, according to the American Cancer Society. The lymphoma was discov ered after Azinger played the Skins Game during Thanksgiv ing weekend in obvious pain and with a clearly restricted swing. He began experiencing pain in his back last month and very nearly withdrew from the Skins Game. "My doctors are very opti mistic that they have caught this early enough so that a full and complete recovery is expected," Azinger said in a statement re leased Wednesday. Whether — The Associated f Rush Continued from Page 3 week. Because of the addiction Sega presented, we then named it SEGAN. What better name can describe something which is constantly addicting young victims to hours of brain-dead fun and even more hours of procrastination? Those of us in the dorm certainly thought that he would be on scholastic probation after the se mester. But, even with courses in Physics, Genet ics, Political Science and Organic Chemistry, he managed a 3.5 GPR. AMAZING!! (as John Mad den would say on Sega's Madden '93). An exception to the laws of procrastination? Well, maybe so. But take, for example, the case of my three next door neighbors, Tom, James and Bart, all of them taking an accounting class together. Count less times this semester have they decided to play for the house honor of being Sega king instead of doing practice problems or studying for their test that day. One time, two of them decided not to study and instead opted for a best-of-seven game play off in Sega's NHL Hockey '94. While the other roommate studied for hours, the two deviants played and played and played. The results: Two B's and one D. (From the way this article is viewed, you can guess who got the D). Most of you probably are saying either one of two things at this point. 1) I agree complete I and I think I'll go play a game or two, or 2) The I games are so stupid, why are they so interest!' to everyone? To those of you who are thinking the 1 bid you warning to stay away from its cure Once you've become a member of the Seganril gion, you cannot escape. I personally cannotfl plain its constant interest or how it is so easy: play instead of study. Although, what else could explain friemli who still live in the dorm, to flock overtoil! apartment, just to play Sega? Or how one explain some friends in the Corps who skip stud hours to come over and play Sega? Nothing. In fact, the same neighbors whose grades wei better after playing Sega, took their system hoir six weeks ago to try and resist it's temptatioi Guess what? They're at my place as we speal lured to the system by some unknown force. Immature as Sega and it's followers may! the fact is still that most students at Texas Ai' would rather play a friendly game of Mor! Kombat than go to Mr. Bill's for three hours,i read 18 chapters of a book they've put off for tl entire semester. Sega does offer a study break for some,oi way of venting frustration against a roommate: neighbor, but addicts are in a far worse predio ment. Besides, I don't really play it that much an; way (the first stage is denial). Well, Eric wants a rematch of a butt-whippf I gave him last week, got to go! m Tribe The Persian kittens.
