Page 4 The Battalion Wednesday, November 24,1 Bonfire Continued from Page 3 logs into place. Workers bind the logs together with loops of wire, three at the bottom and three at the top of each log. Logs for the upper stacks are raised on tag lines, run by yellow- pots. Chains are attached to each end of the log. One chain goes up to a rope around a pulley on cen- terpole and down to a pickup truck, and one chain goes to a rope held by a ground crew. The truck backs up slowly to raise the log, and the ground crew guides the log to a swing worker, who wires it into place. Paul Yhap, Class of '92 and the yellowpot for Off Campus Ag gies, said the most important thing is for the ground crew to keep the rope running freely be hind their backs. "The rope has to slide across your butt freely," he said. "After second and third shift the yellow- pot's butt gets worn off. It's im portant to have on several pairs of jeans when working tag line." Residence halls and Corps units are assigned shifts during push, which began this year on Nov. 10. Sophomore Adam Houston, a Moses Hall crew chief, said typically a hall or outfit will work 6 p.m. to midnight one night, midnight to 6 a.m. the next and then have a night off. During the last few days of stack, the largest logs are placed around the first stack using a crane. Each hall and outfit cuts down a dress log and carves their name in its side, and the largest log is the redpot log, cut down by the senior and junior redpots. The fifth and sixth stacks are built last; fifth stack by the junior redpots and sixth stack by the se nior redpots. On the day of Bonfire, the or ange outhouse representing a "t.u. frat house" is raised to the top of the stack with a crane. The perimeter poles are re moved and all unused logs are cleared from the field. Logs are laid in a wide circle around stack to form the perimeter spectators must remain outside when Bonfire is lit at the tradi tional time of "dark-thirty." Thanksgiving Continued from Page 1 spend Thanksgiving with, Morri son developed the organization to deliver Thanksgiving meals to working families, homeless peo ple in the county and older citi zens that were shut-in due to health problems or that were alone on the holidays. "One man cried when he saw the meal that was delivered to him. After that, I knew I could not charge him for the meal," he said. "I just told him, T can't take your money' and that is how it all started. "This is something that is real ly special to me, the organization is totally run by volunteers, I just provide the management." He said if people want to vol unteer they can go to Fannin Ele mentary School on Baker Street between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday. "Just show up and we will try to put you to work," he said. Morrison said the organization is trying to fill in the cracks for other organizations. "We want to be the scapegoat for the rest of the people," he said. Morrison is in the process of forming a non-profit organization to continue helping others throughout the year.
