The Boeing 737-200 lost height after its undercarriage anda wheel hit the truck, piled high with cotton bales, just past Au rangabad's Chitlakthana airport, 680 miles southwest of New Del hi, said S.T. Deo, airline regional director. The survivors said thejethita power line while losing altitude. Deo said the plane caught fire and broke into three pieces as smashed down on its belly foui miles from the airstrip. "The plane was in flames min utes after takeoff ... I heard a thud ... then the plane began to breal up,” survivor Nagar Sethi told United News of India. His nation ality was not known. Passenger Niranjan Mohanla, a New York City resident, said "passengers at the back simpl| had no chance to escape." Internal Security Minister Ra jesh Pilot told Parliament oneol the two engines burst into flames after takeoff. Foreign embassies were told that at least four U.S. citizens, two French, a Japanese and a Germar were on board, diplomats said, But the U.S. Embassy said it had no confirmation any Americans were on the plane. Concealed Continued from Page 1 cosponsor of the concealed hand gun bill, said it is unconstitutional Wilson, who originally urged defeat of the amendment, saidthf proposal could be a leverage poinl in urging Gov. Ann Richards to support the bill. "^Strategically it's great for us," said Wilson, D-Houston, "Theop ponents obviously made a mis take. That's not our problem." Richards has said she is op posed to the handgun bill, and will likely veto it if it passes botl the House and the Senate. However, Richards' spokesman Chuck McDonald, fol lowing Monday's floor debate, said the proposed statewide refer endum could affect the governor's decision. "We're going to have to tall about the whole thing again now," McDonald said. It takes a two-thirds vote of the House and Senate to override a veto. Earlier Monday, Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock fired a verbal volley at Richards over the issue. Bullock, presiding officer of the Senate, called on Richards to state plainly whether she is for or against the gun bill. "I think the governor ought to take a firm stand one way or the other," he said. Another Richards' spokesman, Bill Cryer, said the governor op poses the bill, and has said so re peatedly. But, he said, Richards will not say whether she will veto the legislation until lawmakers act on it.
