Page 4 TexasA&MCAMPUSThe Battalion Monday, October 19,1 Guerrero Continued from Page 1 statewide office when she was appointed to the commission by Gov. Ann Richards in 1990. She resigned from the commission Sept. 24 but chose to remain in the race. "I believe I am the best candidate for the job," Guerrero said. "I believe I have the best record. If anybody thought that I earned something that I didn't deserve, then I gave you your seat back and decided to go out and earn it on my own." Since her resignation, Guerrero has contin ued to attack Williamson's record with the De partment of Energy during a "Bush energy ad ministration where they lost 400,000 jobs." Guerrero also cited a bipartisan congres sional report saying the Minerals Management "I believe I am the best can didate for the job. I believe I have the best record. If any body thought that I earned something that I didn't de serve, then I gave you your seat back and decided to go out and earn it on my own." - Lena Guerrero Service, which was managed by Williamson, failed to collect $1 billion from oil companies. Williamson said the report was "politically motivated." Williamson continues to attack Guerrero's character with political advertisements show ing Guerrero at a Texas A&M commencement last summer in which she recalled her own commencement although she never graduated. Guerrero said the advertisement missed her biggest point--that she respects the Texas A&M system and the spirit of Aggieland. She said Williamson attacks her character because she has a strong public record. "They (Republicans) had to search 12 years to find something on Lena Guerrero. They had to go back 20 years to find something on Bill Clinton," she said. "They don't want to talk about the kind of things we've been doing. They don't want to talk about the Bill Clinton record as governor. "It's the same for me." Both candidates want to open new markets in natural gas, but they disagree on how to regulate the trucking industry. Guerrero wants to continue regulation to maintain safety. Williamson supports deregu lation, claiming it will save 20,000 jobs and bring $1 billion in economic growth to Texas. -7? •• V v ■ • . > -v!
