Page 4 The Battalion Friday, October 16,1W! Perot promises one term, no pay THE ASSOCIATED PRESS RICHMOND, Va. - Ross Perot tried to cement his credentials as an outsider in Thursday night's debate by promising to serve just one term if elected president and renewing his pledge to serve without pay. The Texas businessman, in a reprise of his feisty performance in the first debate, seemed unaf fected by his running mate's rat tled debate performance earlier in the week. "I intend to be there one term. I do not intend to spend one minute of one day thinking about re-election," said billionaire Perot. He added, acknowledging that his own situation is unique, "I would take absolutely no compensa tion." Perot was as chipper and home- spun as ever. He also was as vague as ever on his eat-your- spinach economic plans, telling viewers repeatedly that they should watch his new 30-minute advertisement Friday night if they wanted the details. "It's a long subject," he said with a crinkly smile. Perotstyle came across in classic form when he was asked how, specifically, he would reduce health care costs. "You own this country but you have no voice in it the way it's or ganized now," he began. But that was only the beginning. "If you want to have a high-risk experience comparable to bungee jumping," Perot said, visit Con gress when it's considering health-care legislation and watch the lobbyists in action.
