    Bomb threat lands offender
five-year prison sentence
DALLAS (AP) — A man Who
mailed an explosive device and a
threatening letter to a federal
judge has received the maximum
sentence of a five-year prison
term.
Daniel B. Davis was already
serving a 109-year state prison
term on an unrelated case.
U.S. District Judge Jorge Solis
said he assessed the maximum
term Wednesday for the threat be
cause of Davis' "long criminal his
tory."
Davis, 28, is serving prison
terms for murder, kidnapping, ag
gravated assault with a deadly
weapon, aggravated assault on
two corrections officers, posses
sion of a deadly weapon, burglary
and theft.
Authorities said Davis mailed
the device and letter to U.S. Dis
trict Judge Jerry Buchmeyer in
February 1991.
The judge opened and read the
letter but turned the device over
to the Dallas police bomb squad.
