CALL 845-9252 Sheriff Ron Miller's No Bull Column BAD BULL Howard Hill ran for sheriff in 1984 as a Democrat and lost. He contested the election stating 'Students voted illlegally." He subpoenaed hundreds of A&M students to be in court during Spring Break 1985. Many already had plans, but that made no difference to Mr. Hill. His opinion was that students at Texas A&M should not vote in local elections. The election contest went all the way to the Supreme Court in Austin. "200 Aggies must sit out spring break in court" The Dallas Morning News • March 6, 1985 "A&M students subpoenaed in contested election case" The Houston Chronicle • March 10, 1985 "Some Aggies will miss break to be in court" The Bryan-College Station Eagle • March 7, 1985 Let's look at Hill's record: 1980 Resigned Bryan Police Department after receiving an overwhelming vote of No Confidence by the Police Association. 1981 Became security guard in Rockdale, Texas on the night shift and still holds that same position. 1984 Ran for sheriff as a Democrat and lost. 1984 "6 say Hill failed confidence vote" Ten officers say Hill's supervision led to low morale The Bryan-College Station Eagle • May 26, 1984 Hill has not been active in law enforcement for the last 12 years. Hill is also running ads saying that students at A&M were ripped off at a gambling shack in Brazos County protected by the sheriff, which is a fiat lie. Mr. Hill feels that A&M students caused him to lose the election in 1984, so this time he is trying to win the election by running on the Republican ticket and deceiving the GOOD BULL SHERIFF RON MILLER and Aggie Posse are running an honest campaign. Sheriff Miller has 24 years of continuous law enforcement service in Brazos County, the last eight as Sheriff. Sheriff Miller manages 103 employees and a 4.1 million dollar budget. Much of the Sheriff's job is running the two county jails. Sheriff Miller has that experience. He is active in many civic organizations and is an advisory member of the College Republicans. Sheriff Miller has been there when the Aggies needed him while his opponent has not graced the campus with his presence until he needed your votes.
