Lady Aggies fall to Coogs Russo reaches 1000 points By Doug Foster The Battalion Sunday's game at G. Russo added a punctuation mark to her work at A&M by scoring her 1000th career point in her last home game, but the Lady Aggies fell to the University of Houston, 72-70. The loss dropped A&M to 15-11 on the season, 7-6 in Southwest Confer ence play, while Houston improved to 19-6, 8-4 in league play. Russo became only the ninth play er in Lady Aggies' history to score 1000 points, but she said the accom plishment was not worth losing to the Cougars. "I wasn't really thinking about it that much," she said. "People have been talking about it all this week, but it really never entered my mind and it's not something I'm real high on right now after losing this one in the second half." The Aggies battled back and forth for the lead with the Cougars for the first seven minutes of the second half. A&M opened the game with a 10-0 run and held a 37-35 lead at the half. With the score 45-44, Houston expanded its lead with a nine-point run with 11 minutes left to play. From that point on, the Aggies could only get within three points un til a last second three-pointer by Shawn Medlock closed the gap to two. The second half surge by Houston was aided by poor shooting by A&M. The Lady Aggies shot 50 percent in the first half, but managed to shoot only 28 percent in the second half. A&M head coach Lynn Hickey said her squad played well to be in the game after such poor shooting.
