The families say in 14 lawsuits that the district was negligent in not buying school buses with emergency exits and failing to train students and drivers in emer gency evacuation procedures. Assistant Superintendent Robert Wicks said board members were disappointed by the law suits, noting the district had tried to help the victims and their fami lies. "We've been very supportive," Wicks said. "Our principals and our counselors rode the buses with the students for a time after the incident."
