Bur!WILLGMNT YOU mmU5TREQUESTS. ” EMS Continued from Page 6 Beutal Health Center can han dle, then they are treated here on campus. Wait says. "But this is not an emergency room, it's a minor emergency clin ic," Wait said. "Anything we can't handle, we give the patient a choice of where they want us to take them — either Humana or St. Joseph's . If they are unconscious then we take them to the nearest hospital." Wait says the EMS team has been fortunate not to have had any serious mass-casualty acci dents on campus. "We've had some minor ones, like after March to the Brazos and Bloody Cross, which usually re sult in heat exhaustion and minor injuries. Wait says. During such events, he says, two or three ambulances will nor mally be stationed nearby to re duce treatment time. In addition to having an ambu lance crew available around the clock, there is also a paramedic on call as well as a health center staff physician, who offers criticism and extra manpower, if needed, and who also may serve as liaison if other emergency units are also on the scene. "We try to provide the most ef fective and up-to-date care that we are able," Wait says. "We try to get the patient treated and taken care of as quickly as possible and do as much as we can for them." Training from Page 2 vice, you're more likely to get repeat business," she said. Instructors from A&M also used the training program at Sea World to train instructors who in turn trained the 2,300 Sea World employees. "They thought this program was so good they didn't develop their own," Coppernoll said. "This brings a lot of credibility to the program." Coppernoll said follow-up re search conducted in cities that used the program found that par ticipants had a stronger sense of pride in their work, and people were more aware of the pride. Managers of the employees in the training program told re searchers they also noticed an in crease in employee morale. Pattie Sears, information/ tourism specialist at the Bryan and College Station Convention and Visitor Bureau, said she feels strongly about the program and considers it an excel lent benefit to the community. Sears said the program targets "front-line" employees and man agers who are often the first to en counter visitors to the community, such as in hotel and retail busi nesses. "We've gotten a good re sponse, and we have full training classes," she said. "We hope to make this an on-going program." Sears said she hopes the pro gram will make employees and managers more knowledgeable of the community and increase hos pitality to visitors. "We want to help the commu- n ’ty be more aware of what's here and improve on what we're al ready doing," she said.
