'Regarding Henry' overly sentimental Continued from page 3 over some of his old cases, he real izes that much of what he did was wrong. He also sees his "friends" for the superficial, backstabbing people that they are. These real izations help him break away from the past and dedicate himself to a new life with his family. Although this film doesn't ex actly offer pat solutions, it isn't terribly danng or suspenseful ei ther; most of the plot developments are telegraphed way ahead of time. The financial implications of the injury are discussed, but never re ally seem to threaten the family. The rehabilitation process also seems amazingly quick. Impor tant issues like parenting, class prejudice and gun control are touched on, but not delved into very deeply. The central message of the film, namely that even m adults, playfulness and a childlike openness and innocence are valu- aole traits, has been dealt with be fore in films like "Big" and more recently, "What About Bob?". Harrison Ford's sincere, be lievable performance as Henry, and the excellent support he gets from Bening, Allen, and especially Nunn constitute this film's saving grace. MTV records "Street Party" Continued from page 3 "Tension was there between us and the city," Whittington said, 'but by the end of the night, we were getting lots of compliments. The city gave us a thumbs-up - no arrests, no fights or riots." "I had predicted 4,000-5,000, but some or the fire marshals esti mated up to 10,000," he said. "MTV only expected 700 to 1000," Whittington said. "I talked to them later, and they said they’ll remem ber the Aggies." College Station's MTV "Street Party" is tentatively scheduled to be aired August 23, hopefully after MTV is back on the air in town. "If MTV isn’t back on, they’re going to send a signal directly to the club, and we’ll air it here," Whittington said. EARN EXTRA MONEYI Participate In Psychology Ex- poriment for $10. World Party Band's latest package not as good as previous work by Timm Doolen World Party Thank You World Chrysalis Ensign On World Party's latest release,Thank You World, the band shows off some of their old stuff (and some even older stuff) in a seemingly intentional tribute to the sounds of classic rock. The nine-track EP includes three versions of the title song, which originally appeared on last year's incredible Goodbye Jumbo, along with a remix of "Is It Too Late?" from the same album. As far as remixes go, these are OK, but on both songs the remixer puts a generic dance beat behind the normal tracks, which doesn't mesh well with the rock feel of the original versions or, for that matter, the other tracks on the album. Of the five "new" songs, they are basically a tribute to rock 'n' roll of a previous generation, in cluding a literal cover of the Bea ties' classic "Happiness Is a Warm Gun." In fact, the reading is so true to the original that it is almost mu sically uninteresting (there's noth ing new to sink your teeth into), except as a tribute to a powerful influence in the career of Karl Wallinger, the band's creative force. Another track, "You're Invited to a Party," sounds dangerously similar to The Doors' "Roadhouse Blues," both musically and vocally. "S.E.X." is the only song that has the '80s or '90s feel to it, extolling the virtues of America's favorite pastime. "Watching and Waiting" is a beautiful ballad and the best new song on the album, which is in teresting because World Party's strength in the past has always been in their faster, harder songs. The final new track, "Na ture Girl," is a combination of a '50s "doo-wap" song mixed with Beach Boys' harmony and lyrics and '60s sound effects, includ ing a full minute of nothing but bird noises. The EP is admittedly a col lection of odds and ends, mostly remixes and songs not released in the United States before now, and as such cannot truly be com pared to their other albums. Thank You Wolrd has an incom plete feel to it that is almost an noying in that you can sense the skill of the group, but the tracks leave you wanting more. It is worth checking out to get a feel of World Party's gen eral sound and influences, but if you're really interested in hear ing some of their better stuff, try their first album.
