Beutel Health Center said. Dr. Erika Gonzalez-Lima said all freshmen, transfer and graduate students are required to have immu nization shots updated. Letters were sent to all students who are not immunized, which is about half the student population. “I would urge new students to have immunizations updated as soon as possible or they might be blocked from spring classes,” she said. She said the admissions office will return tuition and fees checks for next semester from students if their immunizations are not updated. The new policy is necessary be cause of the measles outbreak last spring, she said. Twelve cases of measles were re ported to the health center in the spring, and Gonzalez-Lima said the number of cases could have been higher if 6,100 students had not re ceived updated shots then. The University now requires all new students to receive updated im munizations so every student will be up to date in four years, she said. Gonzalez-Lima said University health officials will continue the pol icy, which is being enforced by the Texas Department of Health. “We are doing this for the benefit See Immunization/Page 4 Correction A graphic in Tuesday’s issue of The Battalion incorrectly stated College Station will contribute $6 million to the LoTrak project if Saturday’s bond proposal passes.
