Horton, a schoolboy star at Ta tum, also had nine tackles, including six unassisted, and pressured the quarterback once as A&M scorched the Horned Frogs 56-10. “Larry had a fine day Saturday,” said A&M coach R.C. Slocum. “He’s really made great strides as a de fensive back after we moved him from running back to the defensive secondary.” Joining Horton is Texas kicker Michael Pollack, who kicked three field goals Saturday, setting a single season school record of 20, as Texas won the SWC football championship by beating Baylor, 23-13, at Waco. For his performance, Poliak was selected as SWC offensive player of the week. The first kick was a career-long 56 yards that opened Texas’ scoring; the second was for 43 yards and made it 20-10; and the third, for 38 yards into a strong wind, climaxing a 17-play drive, closed out scoring with 4:31 to play. “What a kick, what a drive,” ex claimed Texas offensive coordinator Lynn Amedee. Poliak added two extra points, so his 11 points provided the winning margin. “I’ve proven that I am reliable,” said Poliak, who kicked only one year in high school, as a senior at Austin Johnston. Texas NBA Dallas Mavericks Mavs’ losing streak ends in 107-88 victory DALLAS (AP) — Rolando Blackman scored 30 points to be come Dallas’ all-time leading scorer as the Mavericks snapped a three-game losing streak with a 107-88 win over the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday night. Dallas’ inside defense forced the Clippers outside, and Los An geles snot only 39 percent, 33 of 85, and remained winless on the road at 0-5. The Clippers have not won at Reunion Arena since Jan. 22, 1986, and are 0-10 in Dallas since then. Blackman surpassed Mark Aguirre, who scored 13,930 points for Dallas, with a 12-foot jumper with 10:40 left in the sec ond quarter. Blackman now has 13,953 points in 722 games. Alex English started in place of injured Herb Williams, who has bursitis of the knee, and scored 17 points, one under his season high. Charles Smith led the Clip pers with 24 points. The Mavericks made 13 of 21 shots in the third quarter to build a 75-63 lead that was never threatened. From 6:22 of the third through the first 10 minutes of the fourth, Dallas made 12 consecutive field goals in the lane, including five layups and a tip-in. Dallas burst out to an 11-2 lead, but the Clippers responded with a 15-0 run, mostly with a three-guard lineup, holding the Mavs scoreless for 6:09. Johnson scored 8 points in the first 6V2 minutes of the game as Houston grabbed a 15-5 lead and went on for a 24-20 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Jazz, 600-725 since the franchise started in New Orleans in 1974, scored the first 8 points of the second period, taking the lead for the first time, and they never trailed again. The Rockets outscored the Jazz 82-66 from the field, but Utah made 27 of 33 free throws while the Rockets were 10-for-ll. Karl Malone was 13-for-15 from the line. “For the first few plays of the game, it looked like we weren’t ready for them,” Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. “But we were able to finally put it together.” Sloan praised reserve point guard Delaney Rudd, who scored 11 points in 12 minutes, includ ing 7 in the last half of the third quarter when the Jazz broke the game open.
