By LIBBY KURTZ
Of The Battalion Staff
Texas A&M’s Aggie Men’s Club
has added a new responsibility to its
list of activities — taking care of the
flags on west campus.
AMC has been responsible for
lowering and raising the flags on
west campus in honor of Silver Taps
since September.
Jason Leeds, service chairman,
said the club found out last summer
it had been recommended by Dr. J.
Malon Southerland, student services
associate vice president, for the job.
“We were very excited,” Leeds
says. “We accepted the responsibility
immediately. This is the first time a
non-Corps group will be responsible
for this.”
AMC was formed on campus in
1984 as a non-fraternal organiza
tion.
“We are a multi-faceted organiza
tion,” he says. “We have both service
and social projects.”
Leeds, a junior business adminis
tration major, said 10 AMC mem
bers are responsible for the flags.
“The members volunteered for
this special duty,” he says. “Lt. Col.
Henderson from the Commandant’s
Office helped orientate us and or
dered the flags.”
Leeds says the responsibility of
taking care of the flags is one of
AMC y s smaller group projects.
“We have two large group service
projects a year,” he says. “We try to
have one on-campus and one off-
campus project. This year, we’re
going to plant ground cover for
landscape services on campus.”
He says the off-campus project
hasn’t been decided upon yet.
AMC members serve as big broth
ers to students at Oakwood Middle
School in Bryan. The committee also
is helping A&M’s international stu
dents.
“One of our social projects in
volves bringing concerts to A&M’s
campus,” Leeds says.
AMC will host Michael Card’s
concert Tuesday.
Leeds says the money earned, af
ter expenses, will benefit the Still
Creek Boys Ranch in Kurten.
Captain Rowdy warns audience
of rude, crude, gross humor
By ROB NEWBERRY
Of The Battalion Staff
Tonight Bryan-College Station
audiences will get a sample of some
of the no-holds barred comedy that
has made Andrew Dice Clay and
Sam Kinison big names. Frank Lun-
ney, a.k.a. Captain Rowdy, performs
at the Hilton Hotel’s Grand Ball
room at 8 p.m.
Lunney, a former heavyweight
boxer, actually calls himself “the
most controversial comic in Ameri
ca,” and intends to prove it. His
rowdy, raunchy and often disgusting
humor has been shaking up audi
ences across the United States and
especially in Texas.
Captain Rowdy claims he has no
limits in his comedy routine. He
feels free to give everyone from anti
abortionists, to Mother Teresa, to
the audience a hard time. B-CS com
edy fans had better get ready for a
few jabs at whatever they hold sa
cred, because Lunney will no doubt
get right down to business — right
down and dirty.
Lunney is quite proud of his sick
brand of humor. “Sick humor is just
as representative of comedy as
knock-knock jokes,” he says. While
some people will definitely be of
fended, he says, there are just as
many comedy fans who get bored
with clean humor.
Lunney wants people at the show
who can appreciate sick humor. He
wants the audience to be forewarned
— the show is going to be offensive.
“I wish more clubs would put the
warning out. I don’t want to hear
you whining about it later on.”
