Army vehicles Nerd House by Tom A. Madison dispatched from Texas KILLEEN (AP) — Eight hundred vehicles from the 1st Cavalry Divi sion at Fort Hood will be dispatched to the Port of Houston this week for shipment to the Middle East. Four hundred vehicles will leave Fort Hood Wednesday in four sepa rate convoys, base spokeswoman Liz Crossan said. She said the vehicles are trucks and “other wheeled vehi cles.” The remaining 400 will leave Thursday, she said. The convoys, which will take an estimated nine hours to reach the port, will depart at 6 a.m., 8 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. (all times CDT). Troops will drive the vehicles to the port and return to the Army post, she said. The vehicles will be loaded onto ships ferrying equipment to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Shield. “I don’t know if they will be loaded tomorrow or when they will be loaded,” Crossan said. Last week, Fort Hood deployed approximately 300 vehicles.
