tively from Purdue University.
Since he has been at A&M, Hesby
has won numerous honors and
awards. In 1974 and 1985 he was
recognized as the Outstanding Pro
fessor Award from the Collegiate
Future Farmers of America (FFA),
and he was honored as the Faculty

Other awards include the College

Serving as one of five professors
who advise more than 900 under
graduate students, Hesby said, he
does a lot of the advising and enjoys
every bii of it,
“I love teaching and working with
kids bec ause it is fun and I care
about the students,” he said. “1 could
do this for the rest of my life because
it is good to see students motivated
and wanting to do a lot of things for
themselves.,”
Hesby has breakfast at the A{
Cafe every Monday, Wednesday and
Friday with six or seven students in
his introductory animal science class
He said he meets with them just to
visit.
“Sometimes students have forgot
ten to come and meet becauseitisso
early in the morning but it’s a lot of
fun to get to visit with them,” he
said.
Becky Lewis, Hesby’s secretary
described the professor as one of the
busiest people she’s ever met.
“I usually schedule appointment:
for Dr. Hesby until 5 p.m. but he si
schedules more students to come
even past then,” she said. “He's!
very interesting person and 1 enjoy
working for him. It is never dull
around here and students are always
coming in to talk to him.”
Some professors just teach, but
Hesby said, he enjoys sitting down
and talking to the students.
“Students don’t care how muck
you know until they find out ho»
much you care,” he said.
