Willie, Ph.D., pro fessor of education and urban studies at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, will present, “Education and So cial Justice” Tuesday night at 7:30 in 701 Rudder. Willie is a sociologist who has been involved in academic and social issues for many years. He is a founding member and chair of the board of the Greeley Founda tion for Peace and Justice. Hesby (Continued from page 1) State University in 1966. Hesby earned his masters in ani mal nutrition and his Ph.D. in swine nutrition in 1969 and 1971 respec tively from Purdue University. Since he has been at A&M, Hesby has won numerous honors and awards. In 1974 and 1985 he was recognized as the Outstanding Pro fessor Award from the Collegiate Future Farmers of America (FFA), and he was honored as the Faculty Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching by the Association of Former Students in 1974. Other awards include the College of Agriculture Innovative Education Award in 1979, Alpha Gamma Rho Agricultural Fraternity College of Agriculture Teaching Award in 1980, Ag Economics Club Teaching Award in 1981 and 1984 and the Faculty Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching in the College of Agriculture from the Association of Former Students in 1982. He re ceived the Mortar Board Preferred Professor Award in 1984 and made an honorary member of the Saddle and Sirloin Club in 1989. Serving as one of five professors who advise more than 900 under graduate students, Hesby said, he does a lot of the advising and enjoys every bii of it, “I love teaching and working with kids bec ause it is fun and I care about the students,” he said. “1 could do this for the rest of my life because it is good to see students motivated and wanting to do a lot of things for themselves.,” Hesby has breakfast at the A{ Cafe every Monday, Wednesday and Friday with six or seven students in his introductory animal science class He said he meets with them just to visit. “Sometimes students have forgot ten to come and meet becauseitisso early in the morning but it’s a lot of fun to get to visit with them,” he said. Becky Lewis, Hesby’s secretary described the professor as one of the busiest people she’s ever met. “I usually schedule appointment: for Dr. Hesby until 5 p.m. but he si schedules more students to come even past then,” she said. “He's! very interesting person and 1 enjoy working for him. It is never dull around here and students are always coming in to talk to him.” Some professors just teach, but Hesby said, he enjoys sitting down and talking to the students. “Students don’t care how muck you know until they find out ho» much you care,” he said.
