Her talk is sponsored by the Bryan- College Station Sister City Asso ciation, the Texas A&M Student Russian Club and the Depart ment of Modern Languages. JROTC cadets plan visit to A&M this weekend Almost 2,000 JROTC cadets from 40 high schools will visit Texas A&M this weekend as part of the annual “Aggie For A Day” program. The Corps of Cadets sponsors the activity each year for JROTC students from Texas and Loui siana. The program is a part of Corps recruiting efforts. The junior cadets will visit members of the Corps on Satur day. They will tour the campus, in Duncan Dinino- Hall and view a presentation with Corps Commandant Maj. Gen. Thomas Darling and the Corps Cadet Commander Matt Poling in Rud der Auditorium. The presentation will be fol lowed by the film “Something Ex tra” and a yell practice. After this, the high school stu dents will watch the Corps march- in at 12:30 p.m. and attend the Texas A&M-Southern Methodist LIniversity football game. Koldus (Continued from page 1) award to Koldus, said nominees are judged on four criteria: service above and beyond what is required; a professional attitude and relationship with peers and stu dents; loyalty and dedication to the student personnel profession at all levels; and evidence of leadership, creativity and innovation demon strated by writing, research and other accomplishments. “Support must first come in the form ol a nomination,” Duke said. “The more support we receive for the nomination, the more likely the individual is to win.” Koldus received an ample amount of support from current and past co workers, as well as students. “I received numerous letters of support on Dr. Koldus’ behalf,” Duke said. “For many years, Dr. Kol dus has been extremely active in this organization.” Duke said another TACUSPA member, Elizabeth Proffer, dean of students at Texas Christian Univer sity, initiated Koldus’ nomination. Koldus served as president of TA CUSPA and worked at other univer sities before coming to A&M as vice president for Student Services in August 1973. Kevin Buchman, A&M student body president, wrote a letter to Duke supporting Koldus. Buchman said he thought Koldus deserved to be recognized for his good work. Duke agreed. “This award to John is long over due,” he said. “I think his selection was so obvious that many of us thought he had already gotten it.” Laughing, Koldus said, “If you live and work somewhere long enough, they’ll reward you for your efforts.” Then becoming serious, Koldus said he enjoys his work and lifestyle, and this makes the award even more special. “Having someone honor you in that profession is icing on the cake,” he said. Delord (Continued from pages) ium, then local taxpayers can pay ex tra. Once the state has divided the federal and state money and applied it to a local education for all districts, then it should be left up to the local school district for anything above an essential education. “That’s all we owe to a child — a decent teacher, decent facilities and decent studying material — so they may reach a basic education and can go out into the work force,” he said. “If you don’t do that, you’re going to pay later. We can either educate chil dren today, or we can pay for them to sit in our prison system, or be on welfare, or be unemployable and be less than they could have been, in the future.” In order to work to decrease crime in the state. Delord wants to see funding of law enforcement at the local level. “You’ve got to get money at the lowest possible level and reinforce fi nancially from the state the local dis trict attorney, the local sheriff and the local police department,” he said. Delord also said the state police should be used to set up regional task forces that have a coordinated information system throughout the state. He said this would allow every region in the state to be connected by the same law enforcement since “criminals know no jurisdictions.” Delord said he would support the proposal of having a student on the Board of Regents. “I’m not afraid of an interest group having representation,” he said. “I don’t understand why any body would be afraid of a student serving on the Board of Regents, representing the interests of the 40,000 students at A&M. They shouldn’t be, and I would support their having the right to be rep resented on the Board of Regents.” Give the NOID a ft new twist Purchase your favorite pizza from Domino’s Pizza® and get a NOID Bendable Suction Toy for only 99 cents.
