The $17,000 surface replaced the green Astrosnow, a close relative of Astro turf. No white snow was expected to fall on Mount Aggie. 25 years ago — A&M shot-putter Randy Matson won a spot on the United States Olympic Team. 50 years ago — Cadets gathered on the steps of the YMCA Building to inaugurate the opening of the Fall 1939 semester with College Night, a precursor to All-University Night. The yell leaders, football team and football coaches were introduced to the students, and the event was quite similar in style to the 1989 gather ing. ► Nintendo Rentals ►Free Memberships ► Players & Camcorders Also Available IN ADVANCE Houston Symphony visits Rudder Friday The Houston Symphony Or chestra will visit Rudder Audito rium Friday evening at 8 for the first MSC OPAS presentation of their 1989-90 season. Houston’s acclaimed sym phony will perform Gustav Mahl er’s 5th Symphony under the ba ton of Christoph Eschenbach, who is also the orchestra’s music director. Tickets for the concert are available at the MSC Box Office. Student prices are $22.50, $18.50 and $15, although the price for students will be reduced to $5 af ter 7:30 p.m. Friday.
