Stewart, who is recovering from cancer surgery, said some of the best medicine he received was the Tigers’ 108-89 victory over Texas Sunday. “Now that I’ve had a little time, feel a little stronger, it’s fun to watch the games,” he said by telephone from his home in Columbia to radio station KCMO in Kansas City. “Now they’ve gotten a couple of wins under their belt in the NCAA, they know they can play with anybody,” said Stewart, who has fre quently talked with interim coach Rich Daly by telephone. Sixth-ranked Missouri (29-7) suf fered an 86-84 overtime loss to No. 7 Syracuse in the Big Apple NIT final earlier this season. Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim agreed with Stewart that the Tigers are more dangerous than they were early in the season. “Missouri’s a veteran, solid team and very improved from when we played earlier,” he said.
