Space Commerce Corp. will han dle public relations activities on be half of the Soviets, market Soviet sa tellites and provide engineering and technical services, the Fiouston Chronicle reported Tuesday. “They make it, we sell it,” Arthur M. Dula, Space Commerce presi dent, said Tuesday. “It doesn’t have a dollar value,” he said. “We’re both contributing and we’ll split the profits.” Dula said the company will be get ting a better understanding of what the Soviets have to sell. “I don’t know what bits and pieces they make. There’s going to be a large flow of information to us so we can sell these services.” Dula said the contract includes marketing and sale of the new —and up to now secret — satellite-borne nuclear reactor. Dula signed the contract with Glavcosmos, the civilian Soviet space agency, in New York on Dec. 19. It became official Jan. 4 when Alexan der E. Dunayev, head of Glavcos mos, signed it in Moscow. Known in the international space community for his rapport with the Soviets, and his salesmanship abili ties, Dula is kicking off the new ven ture with a highly unusual offer. make dozens more rocket launches annually than the United States, they also have had their Mir space station aloft for two years. They re cently broke their own man-in-space endurance record by keeping a crew in the weightlessness of Mir for 365 continuous days. U.S. observers have said it might take as many as 18 shuttle missions, just in the first phase, to put the Freedom into space, an expensive operation that also would tie up the shuttle for months. The Energi; could put the space station in orbii with two launches. “The Soviet Union is going to have a commercial space progr there is no question about that Dula said. ‘T he only question is whether an American company is going to work with them to makeil real.” For t of Las lenged thatSu] Beca bling m ing San profess Dr. Ru Bengal; Why being a week in “I tf apart w states t tions. “ Dula said he will set up tours of the secret Soviet Baikonur Cosmo drome, the Soviet equivalent of the Kennedy Space Center. Boy drowns in cesspool in El Paso He wants to launch America’s space station, Freedom, now in its design and development stage, on the giant Soviet rocket Energia, the world’s mightiest rocket, sometime in the 1990s. “It would save the American tax payers about $5 billion,” he said. Dula says the company now is marketing photos of the earth and will be making patches for Soviet cosmonauts to wear oh their mis sions. The Soviets not only have the world’s most powerful rocket, and EL PASO (AP) — A 14-month-oM boy drowned in an uncovered cess pool at his home in east El Paso, offi cials said. Arturo Morales was discovered in the cesspool about an hour after his parents reported him missing about 5:30 p.m. Monday, police said. The boy’s head and upper body were submerged in about 2 feet of liquid, police Sgt. Robert Almonte said. The boy fell into a hole about H inches square. Although police called the recep tacle a cesspool, it was unclear whether it was a cesspool, which isil legal in El Paso County, or a legal septic tank. ^ Welcome Back Aggies!
