Dance troupe brings fairy tale to life By Staci Finch Everyone loves a fairy tale, and MSC OPAS brings one of the oldest fairy tales around to Rudder Theater on Sunday, as The Lynda Martha Dance Company presents “The Little Tailor. ” Written by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in the nineteenth century, “The Little Tailor” is the story of a tailor who is mistaken for a great warrior by the king, and is asked to save the kingdom in return for the hand of the princess and one-half of the kingdom. The tailor uses his wit and his skills to save the kingdom, and the two live happily ever after. In this children’s performance, the Evanston, Ill., dance company brings the fairy tale alive through ballet, and the well-known troupe promises to bring an excellent performance. The dance company, coming from Fort Hood, Texas, is touring the country this fall and has eight cast members and several technical workers, said Eric W. Trekell, OPAS program coordinator. “Very few children’s dance companies are well- known, ” he said. “They are .considered to be one of the better children’s groups. ” In addition to the Sunday shows, the dancers will conduct four dance workshops for children who have purchased tickets. They will begin at 1:30 p. m. Saturday at the College Station Community Center, the Grove in Bryan, Aerofit on Villa Maria and in 255 Read at A&M. Trekell said the workshops are designed to give children a basic introduction to ballet and dance. Since children ages seven to 12 would be most interested in the program, the workshop is aimed at these ages. However, younger children are welcome. Trekell said the performances are not limited to children and anyone is welcome. OPAS will hand out balloons after each show. The two 45-minute performances are at 2 and 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5 and are available at the MSC Box Office or the Ticketron outlet at Dillards. Movies Frank’s Bar and Grill In College Station at503 E. University Drive. All ages admitted.
