Dr. Hap Lutz, Bryan 268-4147. 179t7/22 GALVESTON (AP) — Dallas bil lionaire H. Ross Perot has joined in the fight against legalized gambling in Texas, pledging $10,000 to help defeat a move to establish casinos in this island city. Perot, who agreed to contribute the money Wednesday, said gam bling is a sad joke on the state and he compared it to the deadly disease AIDS. The money he pledged will go a group fighting a measure that would legalize gambling casinos by creating a casino-district in the Southeast Texas resort city. “If this happens in Galveston, it could be a disease that goes across the state,” Perot said. “It’s like AIDS. If you get it anywhere, it can spread.” - Voters will go to the polls Aug. 13 in Galveston to decide whether they want area legislators to seek passage of laws that could lead to legalized casino gambling. The election was scheduled after the pro-gambling group Galvestoni ans for Economic Development gathered enough registered voters’ signatures to force the election. A&M students dance topless at local lounge Perot made the donation after Steven Long, hired to represent an other group, Galvestonians Against Casino Gambling, asked him to con tribute to the anti-gambling cam paign and take a public stand on the issue. Long told the Dallas businessman that Las Vegas and Atlantic City ca sino operators pledged to spend $150,000 to convince Galveston vot ers that casino gambling will revive the city’s sagging economy. Organizations that won hard- fought anti-gambling majorities in 1984 and 1987 fear they may be out gunned financially the third time around, Long said in a letter to Perot. Anti-gambling forces spent about $35,000 to defeat a January 1987 legalized gambling proposal. Gambling will not solve the finan cial woes of Galveston or the state, Perot said Wednesday. “I believe, as we restructure Texas away from an oil and gas economy to a diversified economy and industrial base, the last thing we need is to try to build a state based on horse racing and casino gambling and dog racing and lotteries,” Perot said. “We’d better get down to basics and create good jobs for our people and do it in the old-fashioned way, through a good educational system and hard work.” The president of Dallas-based Pratt Hotel Gorp., Jack Pratt, said recently his firm will build a $150 million casino-hotel in Galveston if such operations are legalized. L.as Vegas interests have added funds to pro-gambling funds along with Galveston’s own Central Cities Development Co. By Theresa Emmert Reporter Topless dancers at the Silk Stock ing Lounge in College Station have found a unique opportunity to make money while going to school. The lounge, located on Highway 6 one mile south of College Station, has three topless dancers — one is enrolled at Texas A&rM, a second is taking a semester off and a third who plans to enroll in the fall semes ter. The owner of the lounge, Oleta Dopslauf, said it is hard to get col lege girls to come dance because they are not willing to work hard. Dancers work Monday through Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight for tips only. The dancers, who asked to be identified by their stage names, are Sugar, 21, Chasmere, 22, and Page, 22. Page and Chasmere have been working at the lounge for a week and Sugar has been there for four weeks. To make money as a dancer, Dopslauf said, the girls have to be friendly, smile a lot, like music, be graceful and dedicated to their jobs. She said when a good dancer is on stage, she glows and is at ease. Dopslauf said the art of dancing has been around since biblical times. “It is definitely an art,” Dopslauf said. Chasmere said most people think the girls are whores because they are topless dancers, but they are only en tertainers. “The job is entertainment,” she said. “We don’t go to bed with the customers.” All three dancers like their job but said they need to get more tips and a commission for dancing. “1 love it,” Chasmere said, like going to a party everyday.” The dancers are not allowed use profane language, lie on I stage, touch their bodies in sugps live ways or be touched by the tomers. They have to provideth own costumes, pay for their dm and music. The dancers wear high healsh« t-bottoms, lingerie, makeup a: stars on their breasts, which arerfl quired by law. ■ Dopslauf said the women amii:»\ i !ui). w im h w ill be open thisSundjf? \ will make more money than ustf ■ because the firemen are in to»i| Training firemen have been conm to the club for the eight years it In been open, she said.
