Dr. Clyde Caperton, a local dermatologist participating in the screening, said results from the tests on suspicious areas will he available immediately. “A skin diagnosis is visual,” he said. “We look at it and if some body had something that is a skin cancer or precancerous suspi cious we will give them a little card and tell them they have a suspicious lesion . . . and they should see their doctor or one of the dermatolgists later.” Local dermatologists Dr. Terry Jones and Dr. David Barton also will participate in the screening. American Cancer Society sta tistics show that 7,800 people died from the most serious form of skin cancer, malignant mel anoma, in 1987. Caperton said ulcers on the skin or black moles are possible signs of skin cancer. Testing will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and people interested in the test should call the local Ameri can Cancer Society office at 776- 1463 for an appointment. Judge drops suit accusing four teen-agers of slander SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A for mer teacher’s slander suit filed against four teen-agers who accused her of having sex with another teen has been thrown out of court be cause she failed to attend two depo sition hearings, officials said. State District Judge John Yates dismissed the $400,000 suit Monday because Lou Ann Hogan had missed the deposition appointments. Hogan’s attorney, John Schul- man, said he will consult with the former Clark High School English teacher about an appeal on the dis missal. Hogan has found a job in New York, and her attorneys said that kept her from meeting the deposi tion dates. “This lady is not trying to avoid her deposition,” attorney John Schulman said. “What she is trying to do is take ajob.” But defense attorneys Robert Thornton and Otto Good said Ho gan was avoiding answering ques tions concerning her alleged tryst with Clark High School student Chad Cadenhead. The teen-ager reportedly bragged to friends that he was having a sex ual relationship with the teacher. When the friends did not believe him, he set up a rendezvous with the teacher and the friends watched from outside his bedroom window, attorneys have said. The sexual acts allegedly wit nessed by the teen-agers occurred twice in mid-December. Cadenhead, a 17-year-old with emotional prob lems, committed suicide in late Jan uary.
