M7 Student Miles Bradshaw Junior Agricultural Economics Aggies deserve a student body president with experience. Alter three years of involvement in all three branches ol Student Government, including a term as speaker of the Senate, I feel that I have the experience necessary to successfully serve all students. One of the issues I consider imperative is the implementation of a University- owned, student-operated cable television system for on-campus students. We all know McCaw Cablevision is not concerned with students. With a new system, that will change. Another priority is keeping Aggie Bonfire at Duncan Field. Administration members have hinted that it will be moved to the Texas World Speedway, over 10 miles south of campus. We cannot allow this to happen. As your student body president, I will use my experience and knowledge to preserve Aggie traditions and enthusiastically represent all the students of Texas A&M. Jose L. Castro Senior Aerospace Engineering The decision to run for student body president is the result of serious consideration of what I have to offer in terms of commitment, leadership and experience. This year as chairman for student services, the main goal of my committee was to serve the students and the results have been very beneficial to all students. The Aggie Point Plan was revised and subsequent deposits were lowered, 40 more parking places were created for students behind Duncan, and for the first time a redistribution for football tickets was done to give seniors better seats at the games. But Student Government has been under difficult circumstances. It is the first time four different vice-presidents were appointed, two directors dismissed and thejudicial Board chairman resigned. At the same time the Senate reviewed a reconstruction bill which would have cut the Senate in half. This is not the purpose of Student Government. It is time to get back to the basics, and to remember that serving students is our main goal. For these reasons I hope that you will support my candidacy for student body president. Christopher Ray Davis Junior History Previous experience •Student Body Judicial Board •Legislative Study Group •Commons Area Judicial Board Platform: 1) Implement a Student Government program to assist handicapped Aggies — especially the deaf, who need assistance in word processing their notes, as there is only one person doing it at the moment. 2) Regain for seniors the privilege of optional finals. 3) Make dead week a reality, by lobbying the Faculty Senate to not introduce any new materials or any tests whatsoever. This week will be only for review purposes. 4) Begin a tutoring program for local high school students to better prepare them for the future. 5) Lobby in Austin against tampering with our Permanent University Fund because budget cuts have already hurt us. Body 6) All non-elected Student Government offices will lx* open to an application and interview process and chosen by a committee, consisting of the president. Judicial Board chairman and speaker of the Senate. r hoh Richard de Castongrene Junior Computer Science What has Student Government done in the past year? Most students believe that it has done very little and I agree. Few people outside of Student Government care what goes on inside it, because most of what goes on is needless. Student Government needs to continuously prove its need to exist. If it fails to prove it, STUDENT GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE ABOLISHED. Perry Eichor Junior Marketing My name is Perry Eichor, I am a junior marketing major from San Antonio. I am asking for your support in my candidacy for student body president, because my experience an understanding of the diverse interests of the students at A&M. Through my involvement with the MSC, Student Government, the Corps, and numerous University Committees, I have gained the experience and credibility necessary to advance the concerns of students to the faculty and administration. I am there for running on a platform of diversity, and am identifying pertinent issues which students should be aware of, and that Student Government can work with. I am not making unrealistic campaign promises about the senior finals issue, student service fees or teaching vs. research. However, with your support I can ensure that these issues are thoroughly researched, and that realistic viewpoints are advanced to the policymakers of A&M. Jaime Galvan Junior Accounting Howdy! I am a junior accounting major from College Station. I have been involved extensively in the executive and legislative branches of our Student Government since my freshman year, and have seen many things in our program that need to be changed. To begin with, we must encourage feedback between our senators and their constituencies. This concept, known as “Project Visibility,” has been virtually ignored since its creation a few years ago. As a result, the opinions of our students have been all but ignored in the past few years. It Ii ustrates me to know that this and many other changes are long overdue, but nobody seems to care. As your student body president, I can offer you one simple vow which I know' I can fulfill, that being, to do “The Best l Can Do!" Mason Hogan Senior Animal Science Howdy! My name is Mason Hogan and I’m a senior animal science major from Clyde. I am a candidate for student body president.! believe I’m most qualified for this position because of my experience in Student Government. I have served as senator for both the College of Agriculture and Corps of Cadets. Presently, I am the speaker pro tern of the Senate. Student Government has a positive image with excellent committees like Muster, Parents’ Weekend and Big Event, but lacks the productivity to keep up with A&M’s growth. I would like to see it take a stronger stand on expressing students needs and opinions to faculty and administration. If elected, I will conduct a people-oriented administration with an open-door policy which welcomes input from outsiders.
