In a slow first quarter, neither team led by more than two points until four points by Malone gave the Jazz a 15-9 lead. Utah held a 22-19 advantage going into the second quarter. The Rockets battled back to lead 32-31 after scoring six straight points with 6:28 left in the second quarter. But Bobby Hansen then pitched in eight points to spark Utah to a 49- 40 lead at the half. Leading 79-78 with 3:41 remain ing in the third period, San Antonio rookies Larry Krystkowiak and Johnny Dawkins led a 15-6 outburst to put the Spurs ahead 94-84 at the end of the period. Krystkowiak sandwiched two driv ing layups and three free throws around Dawkins’ four points to lead the surge. Detroit was not able to get closer than 100-93 in the fourth period. Alvin Robertson scored 18 for the Spurs and Walter Berry added 16. Detroit was led by Isaiah Thomas with 23 points, and 21 by Vinnie Johnson. Johnson and center Bill Laimbeer scored 13 apiece in the first half as the Pistons shot 64.1 percent to hold a 62-59 halftime lead. Bullets edge Mavs 118-113 DALLAS (AP) — Moses Ma lone hit a jump shot and four free throws in the final 27 seconds Wednesday night to rally the Washington Bullets from a 14- point deficit to a 118-113 NBA victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Malone and guard Jeff Malone each scored 23 points for the Bul lets, who had lost three of their last four games. Mark Aguirre, who became the first Maverick to score 10,000 points, and Rolando Blackman each scored 22 points for Dallas before a sellout crowd of 17,007 fans in Reunion Arena. Malone collected 13 rebounds as Washington overcame a 91-77 Dallas lead which the Mavericks held late in the third period. Washington outscored Dallas 21-5 and tied the game at 96-all on a free throw by John Williams. A basket by Williams gave Washington the lead with 6:55 to play. Jay Vincent, playing against his old Maverick teammates for the first time, contributed 16 points. James Donaldson had 13 re bounds and rookie Roy Tarpley contributed 11 rebounds for the Mavericks. Dallas’ last lead was 111-110 with 2:34 to play on a basket by Blackman. Jeff Malone scored with 1:23 to play, then Moses Malone took control as Dallas lost only its fourth home game in 20 outings this season.
