(Next to Chimney Hill Bowling.) 836-0828 WACO (AP) — NASA has awarded a $7.5 million research grant to Baylor University physicists to study comet dust and perhaps give weather forecasters a better idea of when and where rain will fall. The grant is the largest in Baylor’s history and one of the largest awarded in the Southwest, Gary Car ter, director of research administra tion, said Wednesday. Dr. Merle Alexander, professor of physics and director of the Institute of Environmental Studies, will be the chief investigator for the 10-12 year study. Alexander’s proposal to study va rious aspects of comet dust was se lected from a Field of several hun dred submitted to the National Aeronautics and Space Administra tion last fall.
