Seniors Dean Goldfine and Dean Johnson, and sophomore Brent Haygarth enter the tournament in A&M’s top three positions, Kent said. Kent said he expects Texas to be the stiffest challenge for his team. Other teams in the six-team field in clude Baylor, Rice, Houston, and Texas Tech. Bobby Kleinecke, coach of the women’s team, said he expects his squad to have its hands full in Baton Rouge. “It’s going to be a very strong tournament,” he said. “This will give us a chance to really see what we’ve got.” Injuries have plagued the team recently, but Kleinecke said the team should be well enough to play. “We have only four players who are completely healthy,” he said. “The other half is playable.” The only seeded entry for A&M is the doubles team of sophomore Ka ren Marshall and senior Kim Labus- chagne, which is the No. 3 seed in the tournament. “They (tournament officials) just went by the rankings last year,” Klei necke said. “If they knew how well Kim (Labuschagne) has played this year, I think she would be seeded in the singles tournament.” Teams in the this weekend’s tour nament include host LSU, No. 5 Trinity, No. 10 Oklahoma State, Houston, Rice, South Carolina, Fur man, and members of the University of Southwestern Louisiana tennis team.
