their fifth victory against two losses
started with 1:50 left to play at their
37.
Backup quarterback Steve Pelluer
completed a 9-yard pass to Tony
Dorsett and then scrambled 21 to a
first down at the Eagles’ 33.
Dallas Coach Tom Landry then
sent in regular quarterback Danny
White, who has been sidelined three
weeks with a groin pull. White hit
fullback Timmy Newsome for 18
yards and a first down at the Eagles’
18.
The Cowboys tried three plays
and the Septien came on to kick his
seventh field goal in eight attempts
this year.
The Cowboys led 7-0 at halftime
as the result of a seven-play, 76-yard,
first-period drive that was capped by
Pelluer’s 22-yard touchdown pass to
tight end Doug Cosbie.
Cunningham, however, led Phila
delphia to a game-tying touchdown
2:51 into the third quarter on a five-
play, 80-yard drive, which he fin
ished with a 14-yard scramble into
the end zone.
The Cowboys surged ahead when
Pelluer connected with wide receiver
Tony Hill for 53 yards and a first
down at the Eagles’ 15.
On the next play, Dorsett raced
wide right into the end zone for a
14-7 Dallas lead with 1:07 remaining
in the quarter.
But Cunningham directed the Ea
gles 51 yards on six plays to knot it
again at 14 with 7:19 remaining.
The key play was a third and 16
completion to Ron Johnson for a
first down at the Eagles’ 24. Cun
ningham then threw the final 15 to
Quick in the end zone.

i CINCINNATI (AP) — James
Brooks bowled over two tacklers on
a 21-yard touchdown run with 43
seconds to play Sunday afternoon,
capping a desperate drive that gave
the Cincinnati Bengals a 31-28 vic
tory over the stunned Houston Oil
ers.
Houston, 1-6, had taken the lead
ust 43 seconds earlier when line-
packer Robert Lyles picked up a
fumble and ran 93 yards untouched
for a touchdown and a 28-24 lead.
■The 5-2 Bengals furiously cov
ered 70 yards in five plays, capped
by Brooks’ second touchdown run of
the game. Brooks led the Bengals of
fense with 133 yards on 18 carries
and 62 yards on six catches.
jThe 1-6 Oilers suffered their sixth
nsecutive loss, extending their
treak of futility against Cincinnati.
The Oilers have lost their last six
mes at Riverfront Stadium since
980 and have dropped 10 of their
last 11 games to the Bengals.
■The Bengals, 5-2, took sole pos
session of first place in the AFC Cen
tral Division with its best start since
1982, the last time they went to the
playoffs with a 7-2 record in the
strike-shortened season.
II The Oilers appeared to have
pulled a stunning reversal in the
closing minutes, before quarterback
Boomer Esiason rallied Cincinnati
against the top-ranked defense in
the American Conference.
|Cincinnati was leading 24-21 and
poised to run out the clock on the
Oiler 5-yard line after Houston used
its last time out.
Fullback Larry Kinnebrew took a
hand-off, ran into the middle of the
Oiler line and fumbled. The ball
went to Lyles, who was laying on the
ground. The replay confirmed he
picked the ball up without being
touched before sprinting for the Oil
ers’ first lead of the game with 1:26
to play.
Esiason hit Cris Collinsworth with
a 25-yard pass to start the Bengals’
winning drive. He completed 13 of
25 passes for 192 yards in the game.
