Previews Westfest corrals fun in Bryan For those of you who aren’t going to make the trek to Fiouston to watch the Aggies this weekend, there's an entire western festival going on Saturday that just begs for your presence. The annual Westfest extravaganza will take place in historical down town Bryan from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is into its third year and is spon sored by the Bryan Downtowners Association and local radio station WTAW. Westfest ’86, which is traditionally a good rea son to get into downtown Bryan and check out what's new, will once again provide a multitude of activities to keep all members of the family oc cupied. The celebration actu ally gets rolling Friday night with a downtown Bryan street dance from 8 to midnight. Music will be provided by the popular Hall of Fame Gang and it's absolutely free. On Saturday, that ever- popular event, the chili cookoff, should go on most of the day. Trick shooter Joe Bow man will be demonstrat ing his pistol prowess on center stage along with several gunfight shows. In keeping with the western theme, there will be hayrides, wagon rides, rodeo clowns and a chil dren's barnyard. And not to be over looked are the horseshoe contest, the auction, arts and crafts, square danc ers, a truck display, booths with food from all over the world and chil dren's movies. Musical entertainment will be provided by seve ral local bands including Spice O’ Life and the Cooper Band. And for gosh sake. don't forget that McGruff the Crime Dog will be there spreading the word about taking a “bite out of crime." The downtown mer chants, of course, will all have their doors thrown wide open in hopes that you'll walk in and ex claim. “Hey, I never knew this was here!” and be come a regular customer. Well, podnah, that’s too long. — by Tony Cornett Orchestra will blend music in unique concert ‘Collage’ The Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra will feature an eclectic blend of music in “Collage” at Rudder Auditorium this Wednesday at 8 p.m. The performance will draw on a wide range of musical styles, from the classical compositions of Mozart and Debussy to the modern brass of Leo Arnaud to the Haitian drumming patterns of a violent voodoo ritual. Sections of the orches tra will be placed through out the auditorium and will be highlighted on indi vidual pieces. Each sec tion will play a series of contrasting pieces which were designed to flow from one musical section to another. The Singing Cadets, Century Singers and members of the Texas A&M Symphonic Band will be appearing with the orchestra. Tickets can be pur chased in advance at the MSC Box Office or at the door the night of the per formance. Prices are $12 for adults, $10 for stu dents and senior citizens and $8 for children 12 and under. For more in formation call the Brazos Valley Symphony Office at 846-7659. Players are packing up ‘Luv’ and moving it to local hotel The Aggie Players are packing up the grease paint, costumes and props for the comedy “Luv” as they prepare to take the show on the road. They won’t be going far, however. “Luv” will re-open at the Aggieland Hotel after being staged on the A&M campus earlier this semes ter. The play will be per formed in a dinner theater format on Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 25, with proceeds from the performances being donated to the Ag gie Players Scholarship Fund. A steak dinner will be served at 7 p.m. and cur tain time is set for 8. Tickets are $15 per person and include the dinner and the perfor mance of the play. A cash bar will open at 6:30.
