The team currently is ranked seventh in the nation by the Na tional Collegiate Athletic Associa tion, and is the No. 1-ranked non scholarship team in the nation, Pitts said. The group also is the only non-scholarship team to make it to national competition the last two years, he said. Most university teams consist of all scholarship shooters. Pitts said. “Most get full scholarships just like football players,” he said. The team is also the No. 1 Re serve Officer Training Corps team in the nation and the state rifle champions. Already this year it has won the state outdoor prone championships, which means a trip to national competition this summer, Pitts said. Because the team is not financed by the university and funds are limited, not all rifle team members compete in every meet, Pitts said, but members of the first team gen erally do. First-team members this year are Eric Uptagafft, Chris Fedun, Vinnie Pestilli, Michael Moore, Annette Tyler and Jeff Fell. Upta- grafft and Tyler were named to the NCAA All-American rifle team last year, Pitts said. and the Un Badnrin Bi H'OUI of I carnate W( bei of tin Two Big Si. ing the new list in Man ■ in Austi ■‘A thro Hn and a for women net ds of tin sl§ said. ■fives tially oi l ere nis. soccer eiT sports ’ volleyball ai Hutch selx fe| 44 athle min and 20 ■ n the n aril ap rangt H, five to thlee in soct nis. Tyler, currently ranked fifth in the nation, qualified to represent the United States in the air rifle championships in Spain this past summer, but the trip was cancelled because of the threat of terrorism. The trip to Spain was resched uled for next year, but Tyler will not be able to make it because Olympic trials are held at the same time. She said her goal is to make the 1988 Olympic team.
